It's a special caliber, Jim, and you are surely doing it justice.

I see they FILL the cylinder!

Is Paco's Apache Blue one of the hard wax type lubes? Need a heater?

No it's not. Kinda 'gummy' ... doesn't run in hot weather ... works pretty well down in the middle 30's. I haven't used anything but that since the 1980's. Paco used it in some fairly fast rifle loads and it worked OK. I used it in heavy bullets in the 30-30 at around 2000 fps.

Yep. Reading a post like this makes me think I should get me a 44 Special, but I know I’m not a good enough revolver shot to wring out the potential.

Gotcha, I didn't see a heater under you sizer.
Do you mix your own or did you get a large supply years ago?

I really like Apache Blue. I still have a small tub of it.

But I don’t know if I could ever replace it. So it sits in the tub.

Fortunately the .44 Special is bnot terribly demanding when it comes to bullet lubes.

My favorite bullet lube is black moly grease mixed (under heat) 50/50 with beeswax.

Gooey and messy and it smells like used transmission fluid when you shoot it, but I’ve never used a better lube.

Back when Paco was making it he gave me two #10 cans full. I still have part of one can left ...enough to last the rest of my life most likely.

Scott, have you tried Lyman's Moly lube?

Scott, I'm with you 100% on the bullet lube. I read Glenn Fryxell's lube formula years ago and I have been very pleased with it over the years since then. It's a little messy but its performance more than makes up for the messiness.

Jim T, way you shoot a revolver and all you know and can do with one, you don't even need a rifle!

Well .. that ain't totally true but it's nice of you to say. I am "Old School" which means in part, do the job with what you have. When it's all said and done it comes down to the person, not the machinery they are using. But there have been times when I would have rather had a rifle. Or a shotgun.
