kudos to HRA

Post by KWK »

I wanted to pick up a 22 repeater for my younger son. I looked at the lever actions on the market and decided the HRA Golden Boy series would be the best for us, having extra drop in the stock which helps with my strong eyeglass correction. The store had a "used but unfired" Silver variant, and we decided to try that and traded in the old Savage single shot bolt action which the three kids grew up using.

We got around to shooting it this morning. What an excellent repeater. Other than my son short-stroking one round, it ran flawlessly its first 250 rounds. The action is very smooth and the trigger is quite good. Unlike some older HRA, this one isn't buffed to oblivion, and one can see the points on the octagon all the way to the muzzle. Overall, the finish is quite nice albeit a little glossy.

The only flaw I've seen so far is the notch in the rear sight doesn't align with the white diamond below. I can fix this.

I must say I'm very favorably impressed with this U.S. made rifle. The last HRA I handled was a Henry several years ago, with an action and mag tube filled with buffing compound.

The morning wasn't a complete success. An older Turnbull 1873 I picked up at auction a year or two ago bound up after my first 10 rounds through it. I wonder if the new links from Shaver need some tweaking (one of the original links was cracked where they usually crack).

I like Henry rimfires and the after sales service pretty good too, I'm sure your younger son will enjoy it 8)

Several years ago I bought a Henry .22 with the Youth stock for the Grandkids to shoot. It has been a great accurate rifle . No regrets !.
