Small game hunt.

Post by Nath »

Took the 94ae out for a wee hunt today.

Using Speers 100gn plinker and shotgun powder I got three items for the game bag for four shots.
The best shot was a 30yds head shot rabbit.

Gotta love a 30-30.

I didn't know they were still making that Pinker bullet. Used to load them in my '06 years ago just for plinking. It was the 110gr jhp that I'd hot rod for groundhogs, wreck a whistle pig in the blink of an eye!
Then I tried them on prarie dogs and all that was left was pink mist!

Bet Jess was happy to be out !

I don't know if Speer still make them also to be honest.
An internet buddy here in the UK sent them to me when I put a call out for unwanted 308" bullets!
I don't know the velocity of these on 8.5gn of Herco.
I've used Speer 110gn hp and soft points in the past.. somehow the 110gn hp can be a pain chambering in a Winchester 94.
Jess was happy yes.

I moved the 66 on John.
I'm not familiar with a 63.

I had a Toz 66 a while back but as one reviewer stated it took eleven men and a dog to cock the darn thing.. happily the 16 gauge has a lot lighter springs.

Yes they are indeed heavy.
It's probably very easy to remedy with a little stoning away some spring width.

Fabulous hunting load . . . I'd like to find a plinker load for my 336. Do you think RB might work? I have a #1 buck mold that I could try . . . should be around 45 Gr . . .

Hmmm, give it a try. I'd stick to 100gn or more.

Many years ago I tried some 80gn bullets but it wasn't very successful.....

Thanks gents.
By way of an update I tried .5 of a grain more today in my small game load and it's just about going super sonic. Certainly closer to regulation sighting wise.
No pressure sign yet.

May try a pinch more soon.
