.35 rem vs .30-30

Howdy Folks,
I have neither caliber or rifle, so I can't check for myself, But:
a friend has a problem with an old Marlin 336 that when firing
.30-30, it keyholes really bad.. Bore looks good... Is it possible
that he's firing .30-30 in a .35 Rem gun..?
Will a .30-30 chamber and fire in a .35 Rem cal gun..??
I haven't seen the gun yet......

I have accidentally loaded a .30-30 in the 32 WS. Accuracy is not any good at all. 50 yards and missed the target completely 3 out of 5. Figured it out and right back to tiny little groups.

Howdy Folks,
Thanks for the replies...
The rifle belongs to a friend of a friend....
He's gonna bring it over some day, later than I thought...
He also has an '86, chambered in 45-90 that I'm also
gonna look at when he gets around to bring it over....
I'm anxious to see them both..... I'll get back to y'all..

If anyone has a copy of the reloading manual from the late 60'2 early 70's there is a chapter entitled "Watch What You Slip Into That Chamber". Semms a young boy bought a Win Mod 70 in .270 from a friend.Along with the rifle he got a cigar box full of ammo. All cartridges looked the same and when he fired the gun he said it recoiled bad and spit hot gas and fire back at him.Turns out a gunsmith checked it out and all was in specs so he asked to see the ammo.There were some .284 rounds mixed in but the rifle was un damaged. WATCH WHAT YOU SLIP IN THAT CHAMBER !!!

284 Winchester should not chamber in a 270 as it has a significantly wider body similar to a magnum. Maybe a 7mm Mauser round?
I myself get very viligant to the point nervousness if I bring both a 270 and a 308 to the range.

My grandson brought his M1 Garand over to shoot. His other grandfather gave him some 30-06 to shoot in it. I noticed right away that it was Turkish 8mm Mauser. The hot 8mm. I told him if I hadn't been there, it might have been a disaster. I know 8mm Mauser ammo blew up early 03's........Bob

And 1895 Winchesters got a bad rep due to people running 8x57 through them...once. Hard to believe it will chamber and fire but it will.
As will .300 Blackout in a .223 :shock:

Exactly why I dumped all of my 300 Blackout and switched to 7.62x39 for my 30 cal AR
