Can Rossi 1892 Handle Ruger Only Loads

I am trying to find out if the Rossi 1892 can handle some of the hotter Ruger Only 45 Colt Loads? I have been looking around on the internet to find the safe pressures for the Rossi 92s but having been able to find much on the actual capable pressure limits.

Well, they make a Rossi 1892 in 454 Casull with a SAAMI spec pressure of 50,000 CUP so I'm thinking that .45 Colt Ruger will be a piece of cake for it. Seriously, the Model 92's action design is super strong and it will do fine with a Ruger only load.

Yes, they can handle the Ruger loads. Quite well, in fact, and from a 24" barrel they are pretty darned impressive...

Although I don't make it a regular practice, at least two coyotes have succumbed to high speed lead poisoning from my 1892 Rossi Short Rifle in 45 Colt with "Ruger/Contender Only" loads. And, my rifle is just as tight as before. I didn't use the max load of TiteGroup, but a median load of 9.0 grains behind a Sierra 240 grain JHP. Maybe Friday I'll go to the range & chrono them. QuickLOAD tells me they generate 25,086psi & should run about 1281 fps from my 20" bbl.

from what I understand they would work very well, but you might be recoil sensitive to the hotter loads. I figure if they would hold 357 mag, and others 44 mag, should handle the 45 colt loads equally well

I run Ruger level 45 Colt from a Winchester 94, 1892, and a Henry Big Boy with zero issues. With a 250gr XTP and a healthy charge of AA#9 I get 1600fps with the Henry and the 1892 (20" barrels) and just shy of 1700fps from the 94 (16" barrel). Accuracy is good. Recoil is a tad thumpy but not bad.

Shot a box of custom 360s at 1350 fps thru my 20” 45 Colt, no problems and felt like shotgun recoil.

Oh, I bet so. I have been working up a couple hunting loads for my Blackhawk and was thinking it would be great for the Rossi too.

Awesome. My fav. Rossi 92 is a 20" also. I'll be shooting 300g and 250g XTPs thought it.

Mine has a tight chamber and the cases did not even expand. Easy extraction and no pressure sign.
