I like listening to those guys talk. Must be in my McAnelly genes.

The same guy has a video on the wearing of the great kilt. It is very enlightening.

Recent DNA tests, 2 of them, said I have 0% Irish. 85% Great Britain/Scotland/Wales in 1 test, 87% in the other. 3 to 7% Italian, and same percent Jewish. Rest is from around Yugoslavia/Romania. Family names and oral history seem to be somewhat open to speculation.

My dad's side is 100% Germans from Ukraine. (Russia back then) My mom's side is a mixture of English, Scottish, Irish, and some Scandinavian too. Likely on the Plunkett, Norton, or King ancestry I'm guessing.

My brother ran our family DNA. I was very surprised 39% Scotland, 30% England NE Europe, 15% Sweden and Denmark, 7% Norway, 4% Wales,3% German and 2% Irish.
I Brit I was working with ran the family name and came up with the family crest (was correct as my father had the same one in his office) and he was able to get the ancestry down to the clan and area in Scotland. So, turns out I am a highlander.

It's a mystery why anyone would wish to claim affinity for a place that his predecessors fled.

I'm there. . . . with 51% Scandinavian so an interesting narrative . . .

we have some broken links, I suspect the Revolution, or 1812, or unCivil War burned those records to the ground. . .

we're hoping someone will back-track us and connect the dots . . .

Just a note on the DNA, individuals in a family usually have different mixes of DNA. In fact there can be parts they don’t share.

It isn't the place as much as the people of that place.
There is a concerted movement to remove and erase our history. This amounts to assassination of our tribes and societies, and is the spawn of the worst scum of humanity...... the people who hate people also hate God.

I have knowledge of ancestors going back about a thousand years. It's an accident of history, but it is the DNA that creates the network....

Peoples move for other causes than war and crime. Opportunity is one of them. Curiosity is another. Preserving the memories preserves the history. Some people think this is worth while.

Not everyone "flees" from somewhere. Some people have always been adventurous, and couldn't put down roots for long before the wanderlust in them drove them to the next adventure. I think that was far more prevalent a couple hundred years ago when there was a lot of the world, and the US that was still untamed.
My ancestors on my dad's side did indeed flee SW Russia because in the mid to late 1880's any German living in SW Russia was being persecuted, or even killed. So anyplace was going to be better than where they were. On my mom's side my grandfather fought in the American Revolution, and after we won our freedom, he packed up his family in Virginia, and headed to the new frontier in what is today Illinois. Then after less than a decade they moved further West, and eventually my heirs packed up in 1842 and headed to Oregon country. It appears the urge to settle new land was always in their DNA, and I doubt any move was ever done because they were running from anything. We can trace mom's side to shortly after the pilgrims arrived here, as they came less than 3 yrs. later and settled in the same area in Massachusetts in 1622.

Isn't everyone a bit different? LOL It's a tangled web when we venture into our Scottish kin . . . And it is worth mentioning that our Scots kin are all descended from larger people groups, who never heard of "Scotland" or "England", before barbed wire fences [metaphorically] controlled migrations... and to remember that we are all related to Noah's family, and Adam, way back. lots of permutations and combinations in the scroll :D

Adam as the only progenitor is a misreading of what “original” texts we have.
