Great ballad. Tom Russell says he wrote that song after visiting a cowboy museum in Alberta. In a display case were horsehair bridles and ropes "woven by Mexican horse thieves, Montana State Prison, 1910."

I was kinda hopin' they got away. I don't have a lot of sympathy for backslidden preachers, having been one.
