Great ballad. Tom Russell says he wrote that song after visiting a cowboy museum in Alberta. In a display case were horsehair bridles and ropes "woven by Mexican horse thieves, Montana State Prison, 1910."

I was kinda hopin' they got away. I don't have a lot of sympathy for backslidden preachers, having been one. :lol:

I had to look up braided horsehair. I knew my h.s. education lacked something . . . I could saddle and ride a horse, and ride bareback, but never learned a thing about tack. Thanks to the www I found this excellence > https://www.customhorsehairandwoolcreat ... shop/tack/ I am the last to know...
