Well, I didn’t get kilt but it was a very painfully learnt lesson.

When just a little kid I saw my big brother talk back to my mom when my dad was in the room......... lesson learned

The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it......... George Orwell.

Nowadays our parents would all be in jail.
That being said...growing up I sure learned quickly!
Way too much mollycoddling these days, way too much...

Indeed.
Worst beating I ever got was once, when thinking I was a man having freshly turned a teenager, I decided to smart off to my Mom in front of my Dad. I never did that again. Unlike GK, I had no older brother to learn from!

Re: Ain't this the truth?
.
My son happened to smart off to my wife when he was about 4 years old and I had already warned him not to. They were walking beside the pond and I happened to be back there on the other side of some weeds too tall for him to know I was only within a few feet of him. The instant he smarted off I appeared out of nowhere and picked him up and threw him in the pond.
Now he could easily throw me in the pond but he's generally a rather polite young man.
