WV/VA Levergunners meet
I was just thinking if some people around here would like to get together and do some shooting, and just hanging out with other fellow levergunners from this area.
Would anybody else like to do this?

It is very dependent on date and place for me. I have one very important responsibility I can't let slide. However, I'd love to do that. I'd bring my '76 and ammo.
Sincerely,

I'd be interested also. I'm in NoVA, so probably not anywhere near the rest of you (about 90 minutes from Richmond), but would drive up to a couple of hours to meet. Anything like Fredricksburg or Manassas convenient for the rest of you?

Roanoke would not be very far away from extreme SW VA....Say Bristol or Abingdon. This would allow Asheville, NC and NE TN residents to attend right on I-81. But, if Bluefield, WV is involved then a drive straight down I-77, to I-81 would put them about an hour south of Roanoke, and about an hour north of Bristol.

Is anyone near the I-81 and I-77 interchange? There would have to be a range obviously...or a possibly a farm? I can make some inquiries. I work until 6AM on Wednesday morning (4-9-08) but I should be able to contact some of the law enforcement officers tin that jurisdiction to see if they know of a public range.
If this is agreeable with anyone let me know. I am not trying to take over...sounds like a logistical nightmare...but I am willing to help if I may.

Tycer, As you are most likely aware, you are about an hour and a half south of the Bristol/Abingdon area. Wytheville would be about another 45 min to an hour past there.
Does anyone want me to contact the Wytheville CO SO to see if they have a place we could meet?

shawn,i don't but i'll ask around for you.did you ever go to harpers ferry?the ghost tour at night is really worthwhile.a pretty girl with a lantern walks around with a small group at night and tells the history and ghost stories of notable houses.the town is completely deserted at night so you get a real feel for the beauty of the place.3 dollars a person, what a deal.

Yeah! Too many people know the Bible says to beat the Swords into plowshares and the spears into pruning hooks.
However, too few knows it also says to beat plowshares into swords and pruning hooks into spears.
You obviously do know the answer to it; "know how and when to use them."
Grace and Peace.

OK..so does everyone here that wants a SW VA / WV (and possibly NC) rifle get together think that Wytheville, VA MAY work for them?
I do know some people I can call if this is acceptable. Let me know some times/dates.

Shawn, The 117th skirmish is May 14-18. Really worth the drive if you have never seen it. Their web site is www.n-ssa.org . Also Mike where do you shoot in the Martinsburg area (Leetown ? )

Mike, right now you are the only possible "NO" for Wytheville, VA. I am just trying to accommodate the masses. Straight up/down I-81 or up/down I-77 seems to be a fair compromise for the masses. Harrisonburg is 4 hours north of the TN border.
Like Ernest, I only get every other weekend off and some of those are already committed to karate clinics.
Any thoughts? I can call the Roanoke P.D. or Sheriff's Office if there are more people closer to that location, but the people I know that may be able to host/help are in the Wytheville, VA area.
Let me know.
I can personally host one near Abingdon/Bristol, VA.

Moody, Seems several more people would prefer Roanoke. would you be able to put the shoot together?

Folks, A get together anywhere is fine for me. I owe myself a day or two off and don't mind a little travel. Sounds like this will fall right between the time crops go in and hay comes off. Perfect!
Pastordon, thanks! Somebody noticed. The usual response is "Huh?"

All OK for me - its just a ride on 81
Wytheville and Roanoke, VA, OK; Leetown, WV, OK (don't know how they arrange a large group of non-members); Westlance private range near Hedgesville WV, OK, ($40 day - $20/day for NRA members if you want to shoot both rifle and pistol, but totally private and has kitchen and bathroom); Sleepy Creek, WV OK.

Ok, fellows, sorry for the delay. Talked to the match director today and he is getting together a list of possible dates and getting the ok from the board of directors. There will be a small range use fee for each person and I have to fill out some info to be a match director for a day. Once I have the OK and the list of possible dates, I will post them here. The range will be to 500 yards, with covered shooting positions, and porta-johns. There are tatrget frames at 100 and 200 meters. I may be able to fanagle the animal swingers for the day. I will see. Let me know if this is of interest before I go any further. Thanks, moodyholler

I'm in (I hope)
Is there a chance for a pistol range, too?
Let's settle on a date as soon as we can so that I can set it aside from all the other demands. I don't have much to 'show and tell' but would like to meet folks I only know by their username.

Well, he mentioned they've got target frames at 100 and 200 yards, plus you can shoot up to 500... I know that out at the Whittington Hunter Silhouette range that there's a rock at 585 that folks routinely blast with their pistols, but surely y'all could make do with the shorter distances mentioned...

I made this a sticky (finally). I don't suppose a date has been set. I have to plan ahead, well ahead.

OK, fellows, here is the news thus far. Good news, I get to pitch the match to the directors on Tuesday evening with the match directors blessing. Bad news is it will likely have to be in August. We do have covered benches and will be out of the sun. Will this suit most folks? Please let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks, moodyholler
