Begging for prayers for my best friend UPDATE

Post by Bill in Oregon »

I just heard from Dave last evening that he has been diagnosed with metastatic bone cancer linked to a prostate cancer that was just under the radar. He lives in eastern Washington and is headed very soon to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle for a full workup. Hutchinson is one of the best in the country, so I have hopes they can treat it and stop it. Dave is a very religious guy and would not miss Mass for anything. (We even stopped on a fishing trip at a small Catholic church in the boonies ... I couldn't believe it.) Dave and I went to high school and some college together, and have been close all of our lives. If you could spare a moment for intercessory prayer on his behalf and for his oncology team at Fred Hutchinson, I would be more grateful than you know.

Got to remembering that in 1970 --we are juniors -- I ordered a couple of "angler's pipes" from Herters -- short stemmed briars that weren't supposed to interfere with casting your fly line -- HAW!-- and some of George L. Herter's "model perfect indian method" pipe tobacco. They weren't checking I.D.s in those days.
So my innocent little Herter's package arrived, and Dave and I rendezvoused at dusk (we lived five houses away in Arcata, CA). We each filled our bowls, tamped them down as instructed with our brand-new pipe tools, applied fire, and started puffing away like a couple of big-shot authors, walking down a back road in our part of town.
It was not long before symptoms that would become familiar but desperately unwanted friends descended upon me. That's funny, my face feels a little damp. Hmm. That's funny, I am having a tiny bit of trouble with balance. That's funny, my stomach feels rebellious. That's funny, it appears that I am clammy all over. That's funny, I am going to barf! And did so, profusely!
These kinds of shenanigans, when shared in youth, bind friends together for life. Wait. Dave didn't barf, just me. What was up with that?
God bless us all.

My friends, I just had good news from my best buddy Dave H. The oncologists at Fred Hutchinson carefully evaluated his case in Seattle this morning and determined that six sessions of chemotherapy over 18 weeks and continuing hormone injections to reduce testosterone levels should keep him alive, fishing, and giving me the business for years to come!   :D
THANK GOD! And thank all of you who asked on his behalf that the Lord take good care of him.
I really, really appreciate it.
