Guns and sex... or maybe 'guns and gender'...

Post by AJMD429 »

.
I always figure when you're leaving the house and someone is asleep you should wake them up enough to let them know you're leaving so that in their subconscious they can know not to ignore the little noises that someone else in the house would make who's supposed to be there, because nobody is supposed to be there at that point.

So when I left earlier today I woke my wife enough to say that I was leaving and I was turning the outside dogs loose, and that "Mr Glock is right here by your purse".

Then as an afterthought I said "...well it could be Mrs Glock I guess..."

But then I got to thinking, would you really want any gun that was breakfast by "Mrs" [...pronounced "misses"]...??? :D

I don't name inanimate objects. Take cars for instance. My Jeep is referred to as "the Jeep", my LTD II as "the Ford", and my Tacoma as "the pickup". Although technically the Jeep is also a pickup, but wiith a 4" long bed and a CJ body it's a legal distinction if anything.

I've often named cars and guns; it's a family thing.

Cars usually named for size and color ('Big Red' or 'Little Blue'), and guns mostly by manufacturer (so only a few exemplary ones from a given maker get to have names).

If you want a weighty 'meeting' with a decisive vote favoring your side, you bring along 'Mr Mossberg' - or the team of 'Smith and Wesson' to the negotiations. 'Mr Blackout' speaks quietly, but authoritatively. 'Mr Lapua' won't be there personally; he mostly does long-distance negotiation, and of course 'Mr Colt' or 'Mr Ruger' can refer to a number of different specialists. Thus my 7-1/2" 44 Mag Redhawk was always "Mr F**kwith"......and his first name is "Don't"...

Ships are female. So are boats. When it comes to cars, I don't have a problem... I only have two, a '55 I've had since high school, known as my car. The other I bought for the Mrs, and has always been known as the Camaro. Now when it comes to trucks... I have a problem... The '55 is known as the "project", the ½-ton belonged to the wife, and is known as the "½-ton, the 1-ton crew cab dually is mine, and has always, as was it's predecessor, been known as the "Dually". The Kenworth was known as the KW before being rebuilt after the son ran over a buffalo, and is now known as "The Rose". If either I or my son mention "truck", it has to be further defined... He's lucky, he only has one!

Guns are not named except by their maker. I have 5 1851 Navies, they're all known as the Navy. Both Patersons are called... guess... "Paterson". I have 7 1911s, including one Combat Commander. They're individually known by who their maker was, except the Commander, which is what it's called! My late wife's guns were always just referred to by her as, "Mine"! Who'm I to argue? She did have her alias engraved on her cowboy guns, so they're all "Griff's Girl". But, that was more for ID purposes than anything.

We called that old '84 olds the gender neutral "zulumoblile" on account of its custom chrome and whitewall tires. We imagined fred sanford and grady wilson cruising watts each with a brown paper sheathed half-litre of ripple or mogan-david between their legs to keep out of view of patrolman griff on duty.....

If it were the little Datsun truck my friend called "The Japster", after that it would have been called "The Flatster"...

HT-1 Gebo, the boss of Repair division on the tin-can I served on in uncle ronnie's yacht club had a little, nigh-on indestructible Isuzu diesel that had a clever sobriquet that I disremember. We cruised the dunes and swamps of kingsland and st. marys and it had a "simon & simon" style lightbar that we used for nighttime raccoon control. A much inebriated MR-1 Jannsen rode in the truck bed with a full-auto 10-22 and scared quite a few ringtails but never quite connected. In those days, there was much unposted jungle north of jax. intl.
