My grandfathers old J. Stevens has an issue. The firing pins are stuck and stick out past the breech a bit. It takes a considerable amount of effort. My dad says they are bent from being dryfired too much. Anyone know a gunsmith that could fix this?
I know it got a lot of use in grandpa's back yard.
I'd forgotten about it until I was going through some more of my dad's slides. The dates on this box were mid '60s.

Most old hammer guns have firing pins that screw out similar to percussion nipples, the pins can be cleaned of any burrs etc and if they have return springs they may need replacing, I have done this a few times and I have sometimes used springs from old ballpoint pens.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

I found a video that shows what I explained but old hammer guns come with different styles of firing pins but are basically the same.

Re: Need a little help w/ an old Stevens double.
I've got an old Rossi double, firing pins were ruined from dry fire. Got a couple new ones from Jack First and replaced them. Had to cut them with a Dremel type tool at one point due to the end being peened over from dry firing. Once that was done the new ones fit perfectly and worked a charm. Don't know if Jack makes pins for the old Stevens or not, but it'd be worth looking into. He makes a good product.
