"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

This is pretty interesting testimony, but I remember in Pharmacy school one of the things we learned way back then was that the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA were pretty much not credible, even though they were the "prestigious" journals. We were supposed to critique studies in the pharmaceutical literature by using statistics, and showing when they use the wrong statistical models, but the methodologic and conceptual flaws in things published in those two journals made it so easy to discredit them, without having to wade into the intricacies of statistics, that the instructor actually wouldn't allow us to use anything published in those journals because they were too easy to shred.
(Same link as above)
I hadn't heard the term "regulatory capture" back then and first heard it a few years ago in reference to big oil industry trying to infiltrate the environmental protection agency, actually, but it makes sense that the same phenomenon has allowed big pharma to penetrate the pharmaceutical regulators.
Even in pharmacy school, they also didn't tell us that when you manufacture a pill, you have to use a placebo that is inert, but when you manufacturer a vaccine, you are allowed to put the adjuvant, which is typically the most toxic ingredient in the preparation, in your placebo. So you pretty much guarantee that your end vaccine will not have significantly different levels of side effects and placebo. What a scam...!
I also remember being taught how many lives the measles vaccine saved, and being shown mortality data, where the deaths from measles plummeted. But what they didn't tell us was that the deaths plummeted a full decade before the vaccines came out, due to better sanitation and improved ability to treat secondary bacterial infections, and provide respiratory support for the severe cases. The decline in measles deaths had essentially nothing to do with the vaccine.
The trouble is, egos are strong, and none of us want to admit when we have been fooled about something, and that is particularly true if you're talking about physicians. Our livelihood depends on maintaining an image of intellectual omniscience, and anything that threatens that has to be dismissed or destroyed.
