El Paso Saddlery comes through, finally.

Post by 2ndovc »

I ordered a new holster for my large frame Vaqueros in early May. It did take up the full six weeks for delivery, beautiful holster but it wasn't what I'd ordered. It was supposed to be a right hand cross draw and what I got was a right hand, strong side butt forward cant that is completely useless to me.
Back and forth all summer long with shortages of labor and materials, COVID issues, etc. Last Monday, over four months since I'd ordered it, the replacement arrived. They told me to keep the wrong one to make up a little for the hassle but doubt I'll ever use it.
Hung them both on an old belt and they do look pretty good. :D

I've been buying from EPS for a very long time and have at least six of their holsters, but have since discovered Simply Rugged and a have always like the stuff I've gotten from Kirkpatrick. Hopefully EPS will work their issues out.
Image

The two pistols and belt look pretty cool but not very functional this way, and the belt is an el cheapo grande that came with another revolver. Guess I'll have to order a full cowboy style double rig.

EPS had a dude taking orders that sucked eggs. I wanted a buckeye logo on the flap of a full flap for my Ruger. Even sent a picture of one of the originals Buckeye Firearms had made. The holster arrived with the EPS makers mark on the flap. Really nice holster. Still waiting on the remake. Ordered 1/27/21, reordered 3/23/21. Robert also told me to keep mistake. I don’t want it.

My buddy Robert...

I'm not going to keep this one either. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. Otherwise, I'll put it on Gunbroker eventually.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about EPS of late. I'm just glad I got all my stuff from them before their service started to suck.

Well, it’s been two years and I’m still waiting. Multiple emails to Robert. Multiple phone calls to their front desk. No response from Robert.
I’m afraid I cannot recommend El Paso saddlery

The conflicting reports about EPS have kept me from ordering as well. One of these days I'm going to order something from Doc Barranti.

It's disappointing that they are still having problems. I did eventually get a replacement holster from El Paso. It was the cross draw that I had ordered, but made for a New Vaquero and not the .44 Magnum, large frame. Gave up after that.

I've had great experiences buying holsters and belts from Mike at Skillet Creek. He sells through Etsy.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/SkilletCreek? ... ule_shop-2

His work is outstanding. The leather is high-quality, thick, and the products made with a lot of attention to detail. And his prices are very reasonable - really fantastic for handmade items right here in the good ol' US of A (and even better, here in South Carolina)!

They may be a victim of their own success. Or possibly their own greed. Rather than turn customers away or have realistic wait times outfits over promise and under deliver. Not a good business model.

A good example of how to handle things is Randall. They are upfront about the lead times. Yet, because the products are of such high quality and their reputation so good folks gladly pay for their knives.

Sorry to hear of the troubles. I have a EPS two gun double loop rig with money belt my wife at the time got me for Christmas quite a while back. They got it delivered on time and it's beautiful. Belt is a bit small but idk how she ordered it. I can wear it but it's a tight cinch sometimes.

I like the looks of those though. And the flap holster as well. What's the barrel lengths? Tycer what does your holster fit?

You ought to give Robert Leahy at Simply Rugged a try.

I've been buying from SR ever since the El Paso fiasco. Just disappointed to see another good company lose their way.

That's cool!

Looks nice.
I'd really like to have a flap holster for my Old Army.

Personally, I've never had a problem with EPS.
I have 5 of their holsters with one on the way.
I found one on Ebay for $79.00!
No waiting and less than half the price!

I have five or six of them as well. Never had a problem before, but waiting six months to get the wrong holster, two more months to get it straight. Then two more months to get a replacement that still wasn't quite right, but functional tells me there's a problem. If you ok with that kind of service, knock yourself out.

About 2 years ago, I was down in El Paso for work for a little over a month. During that time I entertained myself going to check out historic sites and also went to the El Paso Saddlery Shop. Sadly, I was not impressed. The leather workers that I encountered there while they were proficient in doing leather work appeared to have little if any knowledge about firearms. It is not a shocker that they are having issues getting a good fit with holsters or getting orders right the first time. I hope they get the kinks worked out, it will be sad to lose what was once an Icon for quality holsters.
