44/40 Bullet Moulds

Post by Swagman »

G'day Gents,

Looking for a bit of help, I have a Rossi M92 rifle (with the octagonal barrel) in 44/40 and I am after some suggestions for a bullet mould. I only shoot black powder cartridges and at the moment I am using an original bullet mould and "Nut cracker" loading tool that I picked up at a gun show many moons ago (I have included some photos below). This bullet does shoot quite well but I am after some alternatives to try out in my rifle.

Cheers

My favorite .44-40 mould is the 433205C made by Accurate Molds. It weight 205 gr. and has a very wide and deep grease groove perfect for BP loads:

The most popular for black powder loads is Accurate Mold's 43-215C. It is a direct replica of Ideal/Lyman's 42798/43098. However, John added a large lube groove and a roll crimp groove.

The 427098 is a 100% proven design.

Here are some more from Accurtae Molds for the .44

Dang it, I woke up thinking about .44-40s this morning. Threads like this are dangerous when in such a state.

Even with the lack of primers and the high cost of everything else, I still get butterflies when I see 44-40 stuff
