mayday x 3 ineed help.

Post by J Miller »

Last Friday my wife of 38 years had a stroke. At this time she is in the hospital undergoing treatment. So, she is getting the best care as far as I know.

We both just went through covid. We have never been so sick in our lives.

Now I either had a mini stroke a year or so ago or something. I can't walk too long without my legs getting week and wobbly. I'm also having some breathing issues that show up when I try to do stairs.
And I've developed cataracts which makes it dangerous for me to drive so at this point I,m dependent on others.

Now for the last 15 -/+ years my wife has been doing budget and bills. She in effect kept me out of the loop an I/m lost. I've found all utilities, but not the landlords address. I got time I should be able to do it.

I got a call from a home assistance outfit, sent by our family clinic, but they scare me.
Today I don't think I'm gonna get much done; I'm exhausted and cold.

Prayers are requested for my wife, that she recovers, and for myself that I can keep going.

WE are alone here, what little family she has are older than she and unable to help.
I have no family, I'm alone.

Help

As for home health/assistance they can do your shopping, drive you to the dr,hospital, barber, whatever.
Most will use your vehicle or you'll get charged mileage for their vehicle.
DONT use a fly by night home care company, use a nationally known ( franchise) group that is insured, bonded or whatever is required by law. Home Instead, Visiting Angles .

.
There are dishonest and evil people everywhere, but fewer of them attend church regularly. If you can get involved with a nearby church, look around carefully and you will find people who will give you rides (including to church), help around the house, and even help with organizing and paperwork.

They 'even' help non-believers and cynics.

You get help like that, and sooner or later you will be less cynical and more of a believer, too.

After awhile you may find a way to 'pay it forward' as well, even though right now you may think that's impossible. When you get to the point of helping others (and you can do it in subtle ways, without wealth, strength, or great talent), you will achieve a calmness and joy like no other, even as you struggle with your own stresses and sorrows.

Prayers up for your wife, yourself, and that such a path you seek and find.

Joe, you need local help, that is for sure and for certain. Doc gave you good advice. I will say some prayers for you also. I would only add that it is amazing what you "find" when you start "seeking" and while it may take a week or more, God usually comes through if you are looking and praying diligently yourself! -Tutt

This. If your medical clinic sent them, they are likely bonded, insured and vetted. Dont be shy about using them. Also, if there is a Senior Citizens Center in your town, they frequently provide ride services, Meals on Wheels, etc . Get back with your doctor office right away, they have been through this many times and know exactly who all to call for help.

My prayers today were answered. They were that God would let Genie be improved enough to talk to me.
He came through, she talked to us. Not really super clear but enough I could understand much of what she said. She even answered me when I asked where she might have the phone number of the I pad thingy.
Last time I was there I held her arm, it was cold to the touch. Today her arm was warm and felt like normal.
She is improving a wee bit at a time. I'll take it.

Tonight I can sleep better. Thank you God.

Update: Talked to the nurse at the hospital today. He said Genie had a bit of pain in the chest area so they did a chest x-ray. At the time we spoke he had not seen the results.
He told me Genie was talking and telling them about all our kitties, especially Pollyanna our pollydactyle calico. I asked if I could bring her in, but no I cant.
As for transferring her to rehab she has to have two neg covid tests in row before they can.
Things are looking up, I just pray the improvement is steady.

Good news from the hospital just now, 11:13 am. Gene's covid tests have come back negative, and she has improved to the point they are transferring her to the rehab hospital ( part of the same hospital she's in) at 2:30 this afternoon.
This means her improvement is very good.

Thank You Lord and thanks to all here who are praying.

Well, one step forward, two steps backwards.
This morning she's going to rehab ... this afternoon she needs another chest x-ray and a cat scan, rehab maybe tomorrow. Sigh.

I'm beginning to wonder if the docs and I are talking about the same person.

Well now I do have some honest good news. Genie has been transferred to the rehab wing.
She will get three hours of rehab per day. Occupational, speech and taking care of herself.

I'll be going to see her tomorrow before the predicted storms hit.

Prayers are still appreciated.

Upty daytus:
Well, got to the rehab hospital around 2:ish only to find Genie sound asleep.
We talked to her, talked to each other and talked to the nurses, but she never woke up. Her sleep looked more peaceful than before. They had really worked her over in rehab and she was plumb tuckered out.
The young lady that has been ferrying me around had to leave to go up north so we left.
Once I get these eyes fixed I'm gonna go to the hospital and camp out all day. Yep, that be what I be gonna do.

Just talked to the nurse at the rehab hospital. They are sending her back to the hospital for another CT Scan of the head. It seems that the reason we couldn't wake her while we were there yesterday has something to do with her head.
Now I am worried (scared) again. I hope this isn't a severe setback.
Please keep praying for her, she needs all the help she can get.

Well the news today about Gene isn't good. Her progress isn't as good as they want it to be. They are saying she is only doing maybe 20% of the work and the therapists are doing the rest. I think they are giving up too soon.
So now they are talking about putting her into a nursing rehab facility or something like that.
One person tells me her Social Security will be taken for this, another person tells me Medicade will cover it. To say I'm confused is an understatement. They are talking about the 11th of next month as the discharge / transfer date.

If they do take her Social Security, that puts me on the street. I won't have enough money to pay rent and utilities. It takes both our socials to do it.
The last thing I want is to go into an assisted living jail.

Plus I'd have to re-home the kitties and I loathe that idea. Other things I don't care so much about.
If I can hang in there long enough to get my eyes fixed, and the vein specialist seen perhaps I could find some kind of employment.
So I'm / we're in need of lots more prayers.

And any one in the Ft Wayne area that might be interested in buying some vintage to antique sewing machines, contact me.
I do need to clean this place out.

More prayers needed.

11:44 AM
This morning Lutheran Rehab transferred Genie to Englewood Health and Rehab. When she got there she was leaning forward and unresponsive. They tried to wake her but had little success. They told me they were sending her back to Lutheran ER.
I was scared before, now I,m terrified.

12:14 PM Wednesday
I just talked to the people at Lutheran ER; Genie is running a fever, has an infection, possibly pneumonia and having trouble breathing.
The only way they they could get her to respond was by pain stimuli.
Then they hit me with the big question, how far did I want them to go if she started failing. That one I can't answer yet.
What we need now is more prayers, and lots of them.
Thank you for the prayers you've already sent, In Jesus name, AMEN.

I got to the hospital last night around 5;00 PM or so, then got home about I got back from the hospital an hour ago 7:00 ish, and am even more confused than before.
Genie was being set up in ICU at that time.

Nursing home said she arrived totally unresponsive. They said they did all they could to wake her up but she wouldn't respond. So they sent her back to the ER.
I called the ER not long after and was told she had some kind of infection, as well as a fever and was responsive to pain stimuli. But was still otherwise unresponsive.
Janet (Genies friend) called the rehab hospital and was told two nurses and a DR had checked her out before she was discharged, and found nothing wrong.
ICU DR said the infection was possibly a UTI. The was no fever and they did an MRI or CT scan and found nothing different in her head.. He was asking all sorts of questions trying to get an idea of how she was prior to being transferred to the nursing home. Janet and I told him all we could, but I'm not sure what we told him helped much.

Everyone, thanks for all your prayers, this is truly in Gods hands.

For myself I feel like I'm fighting a battle with a squad of demons and I'm not sure I can do this.

.
Urinary Tract Infections can DEFINITELY mimic strokes, complete with unilateral facial drooping, disorientation, and so on. Glad they are treating her to cover that possibility. If it is just a 'mimic' she may improve dramatically.

Prayers up for you guys; I know you are a couple who loves and needs and depends on each other so much.

Prayers up.
