It's probably fitting, as I fear I have become one of the "deplorables" of Leverguns. I don't know what I've specifically done to offend anyone, but it certainly wasn't intentional.
Heck, if you aren't offending somebody, you're not probably saying anything worth listening to anyway... :)

Life too short to walk around being offended. I just listen to what people say and I either:

a) smile and nod if I agree with it, and think how smart that other person must be,

b) if what they are saying is totally ridiculous I still smile, but it's because I'm thinking what an idiot they are.

c) if what they're saying is thoughtful but different than what my opinion is, I will smile and listen I may engage in some constructive dialogue if they are open to that.

So regardless, I smile, and I don't ever let it ruin my day.

.
.
.
...I guess there's a fourth option...

d) if it's a really pretty woman, I will probably not hear a word they're saying, but will just smile and drool. . . but hey, even then I'm still smiling, right...???

Well Doc, I know I ain't option D. :D
To me, the only thing worse than offending someone, or being disliked, is being phony. Whether it's cause its what people want to hear, or to fit in with a narrative.
I just can't do it. I'm not hard to read. If I like someone, I will converse with them and welcome their friendship. If i don't, I just kinda leave them be. I don't want to prod them or be a jerk, just quietly and politely stay away.
I'm usually slow to warm up, cause I take awhile to read folks.
If you ain't noticed, I'm fairly slow. :D

I guess all the homes up there are built with those sort of temperatures in mind, over here a lot of homes are really badly insulated against cold weather.

We hoofed it in to camp today to check on everything. Nice and quiet in there today. More rabbit sign than I expected to see. Saw a few deer tracks, but those will be gone soon. In spite of perfect yarding areas on our property, they skeedaddle south about 6 miles once the snow hits.

Thanks for the warning buddy!
Just finished cleaning the carb and test firing the generator. Went and got 10 gallons of ethanol free super. We NEVER lose power, but only an idiot fails to prepare. Especially when you got 3 freezers full of meat. Don't want my parents to be without power either.
The last storm up here everyone lost power for quite a while. We didn't, and rarely do.
Hopefully, these old shacks are pretty squared away.

Yup. I hate the wind blowing. Makes me nervous. Have to work tonight too. Luckily, just one and I'm off.
I always know i have work at camp when the wind blows real bad. Won't matter till spring I guess. Won't be working on trails much now. I can ride the sled to get closer, then would have to snowshoe in with a chainsaw to work on them. Guess not. :D

I won't get much sleep tonight the wind drives Me nuts. .

Yes sir! Time to get this hillbilly band back together!

Hey GK! I thought of you last night at work. I got watching old Benny Hill skits on YouTube. I used to watch it every Saturday night with my dad when I was a kid. We laughed till we cried. That guy was a riot. After that, it was The World at War. Another excellent British work. The best war documentary ever done IMO.
I bit the bullet a few years ago and bought the entire set of World at War on DVD. Now I'm going to get Benny Hill. Neither were cheap, but worth every penny.

We got off easy again. only about 10" of snow last night/this morning. when it was -0- Friday the Gen wouldn't start. put it in the garage and five minuets of the torpedo heater and it fired right up. that heater is loud but when you need a lot of heat it's gold. must be 10* now and I spent two hours chasing the snow blower around. The Wife has been sick for six weeks but is now starting to feel better. had bad flu and covid again. She finally got it thru her head We can't be taking care of the Grandkids when they are sick. All in all a Good quiet Morning.....,but the Gang is coming later. . Merry Christmas .

Haha yeah, snow when its cold is gravy. Easy to clean up and no packing and freezing.
It's froze back up after that mess Friday. About 12 this morning. If Friday would have been all snow we'd of got 4 feet! Wish it had been.

Merry Christmas to my pals on the PI thread!......boppity bop do bop de wanna git ze bop. Make sense?

Now, on to business:

In keeping with the Marxist id let's set da rules....

NO RULES. :D

DID YOU KNOW......that where 45 Colt lives, some of the coldest weather in the U.S. occurs. The upper northwest counties, Erie, Bradford, McKean actually have colder weather than MAINE! Yes.....there's a pocket there set forth by Mother Nature that allows cold weather to collect there.....

I had mom pull my finger this morning and she wasn't too happy about it. She never heard about it before....duh??....and fell into the gassy trap.....I told her that if she can catch it and paint it green that I'd make dinner......

I'm telling ya....it's sooooooo peaceful around here since we became recluses...no more of that, "what time are you coming over", "hey, you got this or that?"....."I heard you said this about my wife"......"can I borrow $462?!???".....no unwanted stop overs.....just me and mom and our dogs and cats and of course, my kids keep in touch regularly. Mom has a couple of sisters but they only talk on the phone usually talking about the one who's not there.......I've said it

Never heard "Pull my Finger"? Oh come on! No way has she lived with YOU all these years and not heard that. Nope. :D

Yeah, I figure we're all gonna be shown the door soon. Or "cancelled", I should say. Oh well.

Hey now!
Ain't that the 44 you were supposed to give me cheap? Ah, that's ok bud. Give me the unfired 5 and a half inch 45 instead. You know, for carrying the torch in your absence. Heading up the candle light vigil and making all those ribbons. It's hard work being "nice". :D

Oh yeah, there's lots of places colder than here. Either averages or lows. We have cold spots too. Big Black river up by the Allagash is one. Rarely reported because it's in the middle of nowhere, but it's stupid cold there.

Yes son...you have done well! .....lighting the candles, wearing ribbons, go fund me.....and THAT is why you are the General.

I told you before...I'm moving stuff a little at a time. That nice '86 extra lightweight, along with a '95 in 30-40 are leaving here sometime this year....this ain't no museum....

2 Colts (the 45 pictured) and a Triplelock are going to Rock Island as these guns have provenance.

The Annaconda went last week, along with a Krag, a 1917, and a like new '62. That was the intention......good guns are better than any 401.

Hey I get it bud. They have certainly done better than my 401k in the last couple years. I figure it'll be gone soon and I won't have to worry about it.
I really have to make a trip down with some cash. It's hard cause I don't really need anything. It just gonna be stuff I leave my kids haha. However, I DO want to leave my kids things of real value. The .gov will confiscate any money, so that leaves land and quality guns.

Kids want money.....period.....maybe one or two guns that they have memories of...everything else will be sold for .50 on the dollar......they will get my real estate but the money will be mine....besides, they don't need it. Was thinking about leaving everything to our local SPCA. Animals have always brought us a lot of joy

I'm just putting that out to you and a very small number of others...very small.......on the guns I'm selling.......I don't want to hear, "oh man!!!, why didn't you tell me??!!".....

It's so easy just to drop them off at the auction house that has an FFL.....wait a few weeks, and the check arrives......you just have to be able to know which auction house and what's hot at the moment.....they take a cut but the prices they bring I'm good with that...

That like new Savage 358 is going off next week. People beat each other's brains in to get a hard to find gun... :D Like that Colt Annaconda. :D

Had a whole box of powder measures, scales, and other stuff.......that stuff don't bring much but there's no hassle with advertising, boxing it up, etc....

I was at this one auction house a few years back that was not operating on an FFL...it was cash and carry......crazy money......saw a model 64 go for $2700....and it was reblued!!!....everybody and their mom was dropping off guns there until a complaint came in....

Oh well...watching, "I Almost Got Away With It".....idiots

Haha yup. Some of those auctions get insane. Never went to em. I have gone to a couple viewings where you could look the stuff over good. They let you put in an absentee bid, so I would do that. With nobody around, and a chance to look it over, I'd put in what I figured was a price I'd grab if I saw it in a shop.
You guessed it....never got a one. :D

Oh Lordy Lordy...I must have been to 2-400 auctions starting at around 18 years old....but...but....our auctions are most likely different than yours....Our auction..."A fine assortment of antique Winchesters and Colts with many Smith & Wessons and Marlins"
Maine auction, "yea, come to our auction this week and bring your beer and your heavyweight girlfriend. We have many rusted BB guns from old barns and maybe a few old 22 single shot bolt actions from butcher shops and car trunks. Potato chips, Slim Jims and supermarket cola will be on hand but bring your own ice and cups."

Are you laughing?

For real...GOOD gun auctions are somewhere in Pa near every weekend.

Oh man...still cold here pal....20....may be normal to you but here, dats cold!

Being inside 24/7 is getting on my nerves...moms not talking to me because I must have asked her 20 times today to pull my finger. But....she did cook one hell of a Christmas dinner.......just me and her, the two Shih Tzu's and 3 cats...love it...---006

Haha yup! Thats about it now that Julia's is gone. When they were here, it was impressive. Not many locals were in attendance buddy. I saw some incredible stuff there at the viewings. He sold out to Morphy's. I think that's in your neck o' the woods.

Funny story.....
Right next door was another auction house, called Poulins. It was more "local". It's still there.....well......probably not for long. A couple of weeks ago they got busted for having Apache scalps! Can you imagine? Thing is, they were probably scalps from some flatlander up here on vacation and Poulin was trying to pass em off as Apache.

Can't make this stuff up bro.

Oh man...that's nasty...scalps.....even a redneck like me gets repulsed at that.........my brothers buddy in Vietnam used to wear a set of ears around his neck.....he said they were shrunk up and looked like a prune.

Boring dude...watching reruns of Ed Sullivan from the 60's......think I'll hit the sack.....more fun and games tomorrow.

Where'd everybody go?

Yeah. I prepped a couple hundred 45 Colt brass. Now I'm watching Gunsmoke. Probably hit the hay in a while myself. Have to hit the range with the oldest kid and my old man tomorrow or Tuesday. Then have to head up to camp and check on everything.

I still say there IS a 45 LONG Colt but guys here who read more than hands on like me say different. I have the Calvary ammo from the 1870's that says different. :D

nt 6) Its all about having fun, laughing, , and enjoying life. I wake up every day with a smile and for some reason, some people don't like that, hence, the condescending... :D ....If you disagree with my philosophy, let me know.......

Oh...I'm also a Christian but don't bring my Faith to the board. My words are who I am and have neither the desire nor the inclination to present a false image that is so common in today's society in order to "claim the moral high road" Sounds like Elmer Keith, don't it?---6

Howdy Andy! (time to promote myself)
Glad you noticed me with a quote, Thank you!......Sure, we can get to know each other real well......I'm the guy "who knows it all" and is disliked by all but a few. :D I'm very politically incorrect which is why a few of us outcasts started this thread.

Oh...I'm also a Christian but don't bring my Faith to the board. My words are who I am and have neither the desire nor the inclination to present a false image that is so common in today's society in order to "claim the moral high road" Sounds like Elmer Keith, don't it?---6
Well, I'm sure in a guy who "knows it all" there is room somewhere for some humility which keeps us all tolerable. Many here have long, experienced, accomplished and occasionally sordid pasts. Pretty easy for us to get a lil wound up on occasion or a bit pointed in ways that may (or may not) be helpful.

One of the goals I'll be bringing to the table is building camaraderie, encouraging new shooters and old shooters alike. Proverbs tells us that words spoken in the right way are like "Apples of Gold in settings of Silver". Those are also the most effective educationally. We will be looking for some golden apples that will help the family as a whole.

Here in the Politically incorrect topics, there will continue to be some latitude since most all of us have some strong opinions and a bit of satire / indignation / insights mixed with a bit of disgust at how society is changing around us. I personally believe some of what we see happening today are fulfillments of what was called "conspiracy theories" not that long ago. Not that the world hasn't witnessed some of the current dysfunction in other cycles of history but currently we are back on the brink of some difficult times (unless there is heartfelt change and with-it divine intervention)

As far as, "junk is junk and always will be junk." Some of that evaluation is subjective and can be divisive if we ride that horse too hard. In the other forums / pages I work with my policy has been "No brand bashing". We generally don't hear both sides of a customer service complaint, don't have the article in hand to collectively decide a quality issue, and it all becomes pretty one sided. Add to that the dog pile effect that can come with anything negative and what is printed here can have hurtful consequences for our manufactures and businesses that keep everyone in the game. Lots of new stuff out there that certainly isn't a pre-war Winchester or Colt and will never be but... some will own, like, and be proud of what they have invested in and are using. We will not beat the "But it's not a..." horse since it has been dead a long time and discourages the newer shooters who, can only hope to score some of the nicer pieces we almost take for granted in our collections. My guess is that the "Junk" observation has been made here enough everyone knows how we feel about it.

(For the record, I've not a fan of Big looped, cheese-grater forended, ceradipcoated MIM'ed, polymer injection molded wonder guns fit with "moon" scopes but... I try to keep that to myself since it really doesn't do anyone any good to say it or keep saying it and it discourages those who are just coming on board and perhaps haven't experienced what we believe we have superior knowledge of "yet")

Our words bring our faith to the board whether its general conversation, quoted scripture or sincere words of compassion when a member is needing encouragement. Letting our words be, "Seasoned with Salt" means that they are more tasteful. Our words reveal what is in the heart. Iron may sharpen Iron but we know from experience, the best sharpening doesn't involve heat and sparks. Sometimes we are proud that we just "tell it like it is" but that would infer we are always right, superior, and infallible. I knew you were a Christian right off... Who else would own a "a Calvary model" Colt?? :)

I'm looking forward to seeing this group grow, having the reputation as the most helpful, inviting, inspiring forum on the planet. :) TONS of information in the archives and pages here. A wealth of knowledge has been shared and will be shared by accomplished members. We want to honor the contributions and talents of the past and present members in the tone of our exchanges here.

Glad you are on board! (For the record, none of the Unpaid Moderators have shared anything with me. You get to make a first impression on your own! :) )

Be prepared for a little fine tuning of the "rules" as a positive development in how we interact. Won't be anything unreasonable :)
