The Right According To Elmer
While re-reading Sixguns by Keith for the umpteenth time I came across this. It was originally published in 1961. "Gunfighting is nasty business, but as long as we have a criminal element, or nations bent on mastery of the world, it will be necessary. The best possible defense against either is a trained citizenry of gunfighters who will keep and carry on the traditions of this great country for posterity. ... No matter what the law reads or what the courts say, every adult citizen is entitled to own a gun for his personal protection. No anti-gun law ever disarmed a criminal; only respectable people are rendered helpless. The mounting crime statistics prove it." Words of wisdom!

Gotta love the last line: "The mounting crime statistics prove it." Just wait 50-60 yrs Elmer if you want to see "mounting crime statistics".

Elmer was spot on then, and his words are more relevant now than they were then.

New York's carry permit law was found to be unconstitutional again yesterday (probably for the 5th or 6th time).
What we have now is a constabulary and political class who consider the law to be a plaything that they observe or ignore at their apparent whim.
