Goose down!
Goose down, on the deck, not it's feathers!
Used my 10g Pedersoli that incidentally I had not cleaned from its last outing weeks ago!
Good old home made lube looked after it for me .
Anyway, the geese got up off the water and passed over me at an eye watering distance of 20yds! Close enough to see their whites of the eyes, a blind man could down one. With one barrel left I ploughed into some thick cover where I had heard pheasants calling.
One lifted going left and the barrels were now both empty! I hadn't been out an hour and the game bag was heavy. At home the muzzloader got a thorough cleaning.
Today after worship and some chores Jess and I sat waiting for deer under oaks but none appeared. While we were waiting the squirrels were driving Jess crazy . That was my weekend sans family of course. Got to go five days work again before I can escape again! Maybe I can squeeze some rat shooting one night in the week.....

Sounds like a productive hunt I've got to find some fresh ground to hunt on next week after I relocate in Somerset.
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.

Re: Goose down!
Ah wing shooting, now we're talking!
I had Claro out yesterday, 4 flushes , guy hunting with me missed ( both barrels ) on 2 different birds. Claro was not happy about that but her tail wagged when I used 2 shots to put 2 birds in the bag.
This morning Parker got to hunt, 8 flushes. I had 2 guys with me today, of the 8 flushes we got 5. Parker is really hunting nicely as she has matured.

Very Nice!
So, how about sharing your recipe Nath?
Re: Goose down!
It's just beeswax and olive oil my friend. Or what ever is in stock. This lot is coconut fat mixed with olive oil.

Re: Goose down!
Goose meatloaf, we never thought of that. We used to shoot lots of geese back on a neighboring farm pond. We tried marinated, slow cooking, breasting- you name it but the Canada goose is just TUFF to chew. Even the baloney we made was tough! Making jerky was finally agreed on as the best way to eat them.

With Canada's I roast the bird for nine hours with two clean house bricks in the roasting tin.
Basting all the time is the secret.
After nine hours I remove the bird, throw the dang thing away and eat the house bricks!

I’d love to come to the UK once and drag an 8 along to shoot some geese in the spirit of Alan Myers and to do it legally .

Hello friend, we speak on SD. I sincerely hope you get a chance.
There are no restrictions on gauge over here except I think there is a limit of 1&7/8th" bore diameter. So fill ya boots...
