Thanks Men.

Daughter says the hurricane force winds won't reach them for another day and a half, or so. [ !!! ] She said that Nome's streets are flooding from the storm surge. And "sounds like Hooper Bay is getting washed away." This is before the brunt of the storm has even reached those places.

The tug was dragging anchor and they had to make a circuit around the bay to get lined up on an anchor spot... their barge has millions of pounds of gravel on board, destined to be delivered to Hooper Bay, which might not have a terminal capable of off loading it by the time they get there.

So we wait and look at the chart with their track on it and wait on watch with them.

thanks. the aftermath is almost unthinkable in the villages overwhelmed with the destruction. freeze up is not that far away.

On a side note I once caught a woman who was flying down a street in Juneau, about two feet off the ground. I reached out and put an arm around her waist, and the other arm around a light pole, and effected a soft landing for a very small lady headed for a crash. Heh. some good memories are better than others.

Thanks Blaine

she called her Mom with updates. there is another storm coming so they are waiting where they are because they can't deliver until after the incoming wx is past at best, and the location where the rock is going may not be able to unload. they use a smaller barge with a shovel on it to lighter in the load. there may be no equipment left there. no one knows anything definitive yet, except that there a LOT of hurting people, and freeze up is not too far off.

there were two cruise ships in the same bay but i think they've gone now. so, hurry up and wait, but they are safe and well provisioned and probably better off than most of the people on that entire coast line. Grrrr.

Weather happens, and it does its thing no matter what most want. Prayers have been sent for everyone up there.

THANKS for the help! No word yet today but the very flexible schedule is waiting for more information about the barge destination, and for more WX to pass. It's the same watch and watch routine whether anchored or sailing.
