Could that pump water back to the tank? Sort of perpetual motion?Pitchy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 5:04 pm Got the water ram out today had to see it run again.

Re: The old water ram
that's so cool. knew a guy in ak who used one to water his gardens and cool his witte generator . . . thanks for reminding me
Re: The old water ram
yep that`s what it does ya can see it coming out of the small hose, they will raise the water to great distances.Blaine wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 5:55 pmCould that pump water back to the tank? But the tank can`t keep up with the water that is splashing out for display it`s best to catch that water and pump it back to the tank.
In actual use it would be down hill from a water supply like a stream or lake ect... where the waste water doesn`t matter.
They made huge pumps that ere placed right in a river and the current would be enough to run the pump.

Re: The old water ram
That particular pump is probably 60% efficient so 40% of the supply is used to drive the pump.Blaine wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 5:55 pmCould that pump water back to the tank? Sort of perpetual motion?Pitchy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 5:04 pm Got the water ram out today had to see it run again.

Given sufficient head and flow that pump will probably run more than 30gpm at 10’ of head and has a max head of well over 200’. If it has a snifter valve to introduce air back into the pressure chamber it should run 24/7 for decades without maintenance.
Super nice pump. I have pump envy.

Re: The old water ram
These things still just boggle my mind.
Re: The old water ram
An example of 7 pumps in a river that would supply a town with water, it`s using drive pipes from a higher elevation in the river.

Re: The old water ram
Absolutely fascinating....
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.
Re: The old water ram
Added a catch tank under the pump and a electric pump to pump the waste water back to the tank now it will run as long as i want.

Re: The old water ram
So it's the weight of water used to push it past a one way valve when the flow shuts a flap on the large volume side, or have I got that wrong?
I need a diagram!

Re: The old water ram
You got it , the valve is open allowing the water to flow freely through until it closes the valve then it closes and the water goes up into the air bulb where it compresses the air where a flapper valve closes and the air pushes the water up a pipe leaving the air bulb then the pressure drops and it starts the process over again.
Yep it`s the weight of the water in the drive pipe that runs it.
Do a search on such pumps and you`ll find a description.

Re: The old water ram
Sometimes i think we would be better off going backward instead of forwards with technology, yep a three foot drop or more and the longer the drive pipe the better.

Tycer i just now seen the link to the one you built, great job works great.
I built a small Rife pump years ago but i can`t find it someone must of wanted it more than me, may have to make another one.

I wonder if a check valve upstream from the pump would be useful?Pitchy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 17, 2022 6:50 am A video of the operation of the Rife Ram.

Awesome stuff Pitchy. Thanks for the lessons.
Re: The old water ram
That is a great method of using what is readily available . Too bad we are forgetting so much of that type of technology.
