Not another !

Post by 6pt-sika »

I thought I was going to get out of Hausemanns without any gun buying . However after shooting the main event Saturday , I was casing the tent one last time and stopped at Robin Hollows tables . A what appeared to be large frame Parker Grade 2 top lever caught my attention . It was a 10 32” on a 3 frame that I had thought on a 4 or possibly 5 frame . Anyway the gun had been restocked with a very nicely figured piece of dark walnut in straight grip and it had the correct trigger guard with serial number although certainly not original . The new stock has what I’d call trap/pigeon dimensions . While I was drooling the gentleman pulled out a second set of Belgian made fluid steel 10 gauge 3 1/2” 32” barrels that had Briley thin walls . So to make a long story short it followed me home . Saturday I got one of the chokes out and it was lite mod , the other was to tight so I got it out Monday snd it was IC so I got on the horn with Briley and a wrench along with an IM and F are headed my way .

I had hardly even noticed that you were into double guns. :)

They were thrust upon me when I was a mere toddler over fifty years ago ! Don’t even own a proper O/U anymore , although I have a hankering for a K-32 or K-80 or K-20 .

I thought most of my stuff was pretty plain vanilla , but I had three out for display all weekend at the PGCA table and I got quite a few inquiries whether any were for sale . I have a Parker DH 16 gauge with 32” barrels on from what I understand a rare frame size a #2 most 16’s were on 1 or 0 frames . This two frame guns has 35/1000’s constriction in both barrels . It’ll reach out and touch clay targets far far away , it also has made some of the longest shots I’ve made at tower pheasants . So I think it’ll hang around a couple more years . Incidentally a pretty good friend acquired an A.H. Fox A grade 20 gauge with factory 34” barrels . Seems it’s one of three , Fox didn’t make barrels that long in Philly at the time so those three guns had factory original German made barrels .

Thanks ! At the moment I’m debating whether to have the wood redone by a friend and have the Damascus barrels redone by another friend . I’d like to take it to the gun club and try it on the skeet field with the IC/M chokes in the fluid steel barrels .

I'm going to the second pheasant tower shoot this season for me next saturday and I've decided to take this gun with the fluid steel barrels may go with mod in the right and full in the left of possibly the Improved Modified in the right barrel . Loaded up 100 nice new 1 1/4 ounce loads of #6's . The shoot last month was pheasants and pigeons , this one will be pheasants and red legged partridge .

I also plan on taking this gun up a tree during the gun deer season and possibly plunking a deer with some factory 3 1/2" 00 buck loads .
