rem 125 SJHP 38+p groups

Post by mickbr »

Was range shootin some of these last weekend in my 357 rossi with bushnell red dot. Seemed to be getting 3 good shots around 2" at 75 yards but then a lower flier opening it to 4-6". Wasnt checking which shot the flier was and eyes not good enough to tell from way back there. Could it be the powder position coming into play? I pulled one of those loads apart its only 6.5 grains in there. Was thinking afterwards maybe the powder is away from the primer first shot which lowers velocity and drops it short, then after that the recoil shaking the powder up more evenly and firming the group up. Or maybe I am just advancing theories here to explain a few poorly shot groups :D

Test the theory. Prior to aim but in battery lift the muzzle vertical.

What Nath said. A lot will depend on the range you're using. If it is allowed, lever in a round, lower the hammer, raise muzzle vertical, lightly tap on bench, lower to horizontal, thumb back hammer, aim, fire. "Rinse, repeat". SOME ranges would have a hissy fit over that procedure, but if done properly then there should be no problem in a range where it would be allowed.

Sounds like it would be worth a try.

Might somehow try to rule out pilot error.

Thanks fellas and pilot error is quite possible. I use a red dot as open sights are a bit of stretch these days.
