Levergun kills?

Post by Drawdown »

I've got 5 or 6 levergunkills and pics I'd love to post but I can't. I've read a while back, actually a couple times how to post pics from your phone, but I just don't understand, can't even get started! I've posted fishing pics on another site, has the attachment link, and it's easy. I ain't fooling with PB or them image sites. If someone would be willing to post for me, and a number to text them too, I can do that. But I understand if nobody wants to fool with the trouble also, don't blame anyone for that! Or an easy explanation with 1st grade language of how I can do it?

All I do to post pictures that are in the gallery on my tablet is click on attachments at the bottom of the post and the click add files go to gallery and click on the photo, wait a second or two and " place in line appears" click that and the photo will appear on the post.

That was easy, thanks gamekeeper! The 2016 buck was about 8yd shot with a 150gr Rem CL. He came down a logging road. And worked a scrape I was watching about 40yds away, then started coming ondown to me. I'd never tried a frontal shot, so I let keep on. He came down and smelled where I'd came up, and I got behind the root wad of a big blow down. Just standing there looking down the road, I had to about bend over backwards to shoot around roots. Worst shot I ever made i jerked bad where I was leaning back so far. It went in behind the vitals on left side, and broke his right rear leg. He fell in his tracks, so I stepped up on the clumps and finished him.

The 2017 buck was a great, very exciting hunt. The rut was peaking no doubt, Nov14, and he came into the same spot I was in previous year, but from above me on a big oak bench-flat. 9am, the sun right behind me, shining on his rack, it glistening white looked like. There was a 6pt with him, and 3 does. I was hid, sitting on a big fallen tree, back rest against another tree. Just waited on that perfect shot, cause pretty thick there, had to thread it thru. I shot him perfect broadside on right side with a 150gr Win PowerPoint at 50yds. Talk about a job! It broke both shoulders perfectly, his nose hit the ground and within 5 seconds his hinds legs plowing like a riverboat full speed. He jammed hard under a big fallen limb, his rack locked up in it about 5 yds in front me. I put another him to finish him quicker, but it wasn't necessary!

I called the yote in about 8:30 am, I'd set up under a big roosting point, but pretty well knew they henned up, so planned on waiting till late morning, they'd be there strutting by noon, after they left hens, me in edge a hay field. Well the yotes knew it to, he showed up at aprox 8:30, and howled about 50 yds from me. I got turned and set, and just yelped few times like a young turkey. He come a running, shot him about 20yds. Then like a good plan the big gobbler showed at 10:30, I never even called. Now I'd taken a 16ga and my Marlin that morning for these reasons, the yotes thick there. But I wasn't calling. I raised the Tang sight, and at 65 yds (checked with range finder) LOL, his head hit the ground before his body! I shot his neck in two, both with 150 Win PP's.

The 2019 hunt was a hunt you dream about as far as action! Peak of rut, Nov15, and I'd let this buck walk 2 days before this. I was hunting a giant 11pt, I'd been watching with my cameras since June. But day before, there's does running everywhere, I mean you could tell it's intense. I'd only seen the 7pt, but does everywhere. Well I went I'm early knowing this might be day, and it was like what you see on TV in Iowa. You just don't hardly see this much here in mountains but by 9am, I'd done been about run over with does, a aprox 6pt chasing em out sight down into fields, then back. I was a nervous reck. I heard a buddy shoot around 8:30, down in the fields, I kinda figured he'd gotten the big boy? About 9:30, here come mine from another direction, not running, but on the move with 3-4 does, another smaller buck, and I couldn't stand it anymore I was standing trying get a shot, hit him at about 50 yds, he fell in his tracks. It was slightly uphill, and with a receiver sight I'm never off on windage, but under the pressure I hit him little high, but effected his spine. He's gone in a few seconds. 3 of the does came back while I was looking at him, stayed there about 30yds out, I was talking to them, and they still stayed. They was there until I just about run them off, never seen anything like it! And my buddy did get the big 11pt.

I had tried it several times in last couple years and I'd see the attachment button. Then it would read if you wish to add an attachment------add details below, but I just wasn't seeing the add files button, cause I'd scroll down, nothing there. I'm slow at this stuff, scared to experiment.

JDL,
Well I did not wear one of those funny Pith Helmets, but after seeing what it shoots through, I did get a bit more confidence in using it on dangerous game.
Image
Thought my friend is holding his single shot 30-06, it was my 1895 .405 that put the bull down. 86er was guiding with my 1895 and gave it to the hunter to stop wasting 30-06 ammo. It worked!
The .405 is very effective with bullets from 210 grains up through 400 grains. That bull was taken with my 300 grain North Fork handloads.

No, I would say the smoothest lever action I have ever felt is a Whitney Kennedy.

Great thread fellas! Some wonderful lever iron used on these hunts.
Mossy, there are no flies on that .32 Special.
My only lever kill was a forked horn blacktail still in the velvet on the Bear River in far northern California in 1970, when I was a high school junior. Rifle was a Marlin 336C that Dad ordered for me through the mail from Herter's the year before. I proudly used one of my first handloads -- a 150-grain Sierra over a forgotten quantity old faithful IMR 3031.
