that 550 load is about like my 45/70/525 round at a couple hundred yards. that's amazing. i wonder how they get that much energy behind those bullets?

I'm sure you could get one of those lever-actuated bicycle pumps and use it to fill the cylinder of that air-rifle.......might take a couple weeks though...!

I've looked at getting one of these big bores. Think I would get a .30 or .357 just for the more shots per air charge.
Yes there are bicycle type pumps and yes it takes a while.
The biggest reason I haven't pulled the trigger on one is the cost of the special compressors- as much as the cost of the gun! The bike pump just isn't appealing for high volume shooting!

Yeah I think I'd build a 'bicycle' pump that ran off of an exercise bike to do the pumping...! Then I could get a workout.

The idea of a 45 ACP level carbine that only needed bullets but no powder or primer is kind of cool.

I had a Benjamin Maurader in .25 and the English-made Hill hand pump. It was a real workout and quickly lost its appeal, although the rifle itself was wonderfully accurate, powerful and quiet. Umarex has come out with a compressor under $600, which begins to make a PCP gun slightly more affordable.

it does bring up an interesting discussion of how much "bullet" do we actually need? I'm first to admit that i don't foresee giving up my primary 45/70 -- 50Beo rifle/pistol for woods walking / meat hunting, ocean travel.

that said, game is taken with air guns at "crazy" TKO numbers, in comparison. I think we've been all over this in the past, something like, if a .17 pellet can kill a deer, why use anything else?

my out is to carry something that resembles a freight train, relatively.

but for an air gun, what is your ideal, only one, all round, do everything you need a projectile for, caliber and bullet choice?

All the air rifle dealers like Pyramid have been out of powerful air rifles, except for the expensive PCPs for some time.....
I would like to get a Hatsan break barrel .30 cal if/when they are once again available.
If you can't get to within fifteen yards or so (average archery shot) and hit a two inch area on a deer's head, don't try it.
