1886 Uberti

Post by doulos1 »

Hi
This is my first post here. Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Uberti 1886 Sporting Rifle?
Thanks

Welcome to the fire... :D I have only had a Uberti 73 and a Uberti 66 both were well made. Someone here will have the experience you're looking for.

I've shot both the Uberti and Henry. The Henry is head and shoulders above the Uberti in both appearance and funtion

Sorry miss read your post. I thought it said 1866.

But my comment about Henry’s superior quality stands.

I've had an Uberti, Pedersoli and Browning '86, and all three shot and functioned quite well. The most recent one was the Pedersoli that was in a "Lightweight" style that I traded on an Uberti sharps because I wanted to do some long range shooting. I sold off the other two to buy an original Winchester '86 in .33WCF that I've been very happy with. I'm still on the lookout for a Browning '86 SRC. :D

What do you remember about them. Were they very simular? I think I remember reading somewhere the Uberti was actually a collaboration with Pedersoli???

Honestly, if one hadn't had a short magazine it would have been difficult to tell them apart. They both shot about the same as well but if I remember correctly the Uberti preferred heavier bullets compared to the Pedersoli. The main reason I kept the Marlin LTDIII was that it 350 and 405 grain equally as well. Cast or jacketed, doesn't seem tp make a difference in the Marlin. The browning was beat to snot, but shot everything very well also. It needed a lot of work cosmetically so I sold it for something that didn't. I think I sold it to someone here, but it's been awhile.

I am pretty sure they trade off manufacturing . I believe that Uberti makes most if not all the lever guns and my Uberti 74 Sharps was made by Pedersoli.

I think at one time Pedersoli was the manufacturer of the Uberti 1886. I dont think thats the case any more. The specs on the 2 guns are slightly different. The Pedersoli has a 1-18 twist and the Uberti sports a 1-20 twist. Also the weight is a bit different. Every spec Ive seen lately lists the Pedersoli as the heavier of the 2 rifles. Im not sure. The only way to be sure is to ask a experienced Uberti or Pedersoli dealer.

I do believe that the Uberti 1886 is currently manufactured by Pedersoli... if you look at the pictures on their website... they're the same gun... patterns of wood and CCH are identical... not quite possible in actual production.

I know for a fact that they're slightly different than the original 1886 in dimensions... tho' close. The Browning 1886 was produced by Miroku from 1985 to the late '90s IIRC.

Griff, my Browning 1886 Rifle was made in 1986. I also have a Browning 1886 SRC made in the very early 90s (1991,1992 or 1993). Other than those two runs, Browning didn't make any more 86s IIRC.

I'll have to look up my 1886 serial no. I always thought the first year of production for them was 1985.
