Webley to start making revolvers again.
Webley and Scott are making revolvers again but in India, I don't know what models but when I worked for Westley Richards we sold a lot of .32 Webley's to India as that was the largest caliber the Indian government allowed.

A modern repro of the.455 caliber revolver would be fun.

What about a .480 Achilles?

Interesting.....I need Gamekeeper to explain something.
The English have always designed and built the most graceful of double barreled shotguns with the finest lines.
The English have built the most rugged of all military small arms, but, dang, those guns are ugly. I've owned Webley revolvers and you can shoot them until the cows come home but it is hard to look at em.

Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
Just a guess, but the beautiful long arms were for the people with titles. The handguns were for Military use. Most people don't care if a Military firearm is ugly as long as it works in all conditions and keeps working aslong as it is needed.

I don't find the Webley that ugly but I know what you mean, a lot of British officers preferred the S&W or Colt if they could get their hands on one.
Although the design is a copy of the Webley I prefer the Enfield, even the bobbed hammered one for looks and I found the double action trigger pull surprisingly quite good on the only one I recently fired.

On one hand we have an island nation that gave us the Spitfire and Jaguar E-type, both aesthetically beautiful designs.
On the other, we have the Webley, and the Supermarine Walrus.

I suppose that the Luger is a more aesthetically pleasing handgun but drop a Luger and a Webley in the mud and see which one still works.stretch wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 1:23 pmYep, it's funny.I've owned Webley revolvers and you can shoot them until the cows come home but it is hard to look at em.

Myself I've always found American revolvers more pleasing to the eye than British designed revolvers and they mostly feel right in the hand too.

“We will soon launch the classic W&S Mark IV revolver in .32 caliber in two variations. This will be followed later in the year by a .32 caliber pistol with polymer frame and steel slide. The pistol will have a 13-shot capacity. Next in line are a 12 bore pump-action shotgun, a .45 caliber pistol and air rifles,”gamekeeper wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 5:36 pm Webley and Scott are making revolvers again but in India, I don't know what models but when I worked for Westley Richards we sold a lot of .32 Webley's to India as that was the largest caliber the Indian government allowed.

Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
I am still stuck on the concept of the government ‘allowing’ certain calibers and firearms....
Who in their right mind would consent to a system where government ‘allowed’ anything to the citizens...?
Any kind of rational human being with any sense of morality would realize that is clearly the opposite that should happen. The citizens might ‘allow’ the government to do something but the government has no intrinsic authority to ‘allow’ or ‘disallow’ citizens to do things other than obviously harm one another.
‘Allowing’ a certain kind of firearm or ‘disallowing’ it, is completely beyond the pale of any government authority any rational human would consent to.

Someone once told me "If you have to ask, you can't afford it", but how much is that in US dollars?
..
Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
$8904.11
A dollar is .73 of a pound sterling.

If we do not stick together, A-AWK, that congressional bartender, will ignore the Constitution, Law, and Protocol and declare guns banded. I agree with her. I also agree with AJMD. These guns are destined for the filthy rich elite, not us regular folks. At this price only the royalty could afford them.
At this price they can shuv 'em up their ... um ... where the sun don't shine.

Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
What's the difference between having one really nice handgun or a couple dozen different ones? I know quite a few people that can throw $10k around like it's water, it's all a matter of perspective. They're certainly not "Royalty", just people that have the drive to make a good living. I remember seeing the invoice for a new set of sails for my dad's boat back in the '80s that was well over ten thousand then. I have a Winchester Musket that the closest I've seen condition wise to the one I have was $7000 without the Spanish Loyalist cartouche on the stock. Should I shove that one too? How about the C96 with Finn property marks, matching numbers and near perfect condition that I can't find a single one close enough to put a price on it?J Miller wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 8:49 pm My wife: "That's ... that's ridiculous! Looks to me like a simple issue of supply and demand.
Because of the laws where they are manufactured they aren't able to produce enough of them to draw the price down.
That and they put a lot of custom finishing work into them.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
I agree that say a person has $20,000 to invest in a gun collection....one buys 40 guns averaging $500 each and another buys 2 guns at $10,000 each. Neither is ‘wrong’.
Most of us are in between; $20k would mean a couple $2,500 guns, maybe four $1,000 ones, ten at $500, and twenty worth $300 apiece. We might shoot the $300 ones more, but not always.
It takes lots of self discipline to just have a few really pricey guns, because it means you passed up lots of impulse-buys and saved money (or traded up). On the other hand once you get ‘the best’ you aren’t longing for every gun you see, because you’ve already ‘got better ones at home’.

Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
Wow, being made in India and selling for 6500 pounds....... makes me wonder what the actual manufacturing cost is.
Re: Webley to start making revolvers again.
Probably about 10,000 rupees.

Beautiful, but "wow" indeed. I would like to see one in a more common caliber. Then again, nothing is "common" or available right now.gamekeeper wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 6:51 pmWOW....Bruce Scott wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 6:24 pm Anderson Wheeler are making a "MK VII" in .357 Magnum, it comes with . . .
