still puttering, and playing with lever guns
this is one of my absolute favorites. slender and well balanced but still a big rifle. in very good shape for its age.
my overall favorite rifle caliber 45/70
and its friend is in a favorite caliber too, 45 colt
in company with appropriate [ more or less anyway ] accoutrements

Harold, God bless you and keep puttering! Bullards! Geez!
Re: still puttering, and playing with lever guns
What a bizarre lever action!
I knew of the Bullard single shot but didn't realize it was basically a chopped down lever action repeater, the latter having come first. The action locks a bit like a rolling block, with the locking mechanism to the very rear. A long breech bolt goes forward to pick up a cartridge off a Volcanic/Henry/Winchester style carrier. To get the necessary stroke, a double-rack and pinion is used to shuttle the bolt. Interesting beast.
