Well, the spring was good to me. I'm all tagged out with over a week left in the season. According to the check station, birds seem to be harder to come by this year and a lot of the birds harvested were Jakes. That indicates a good hatch last year and good potential for 2 year old birds next year.
I was able to harvest the smallest bird I ever shot. 12 lbs. and 2.5 inch beard. Cute little bugger. I'm sure it'll be tasty.
The other bird was 19 lbs. and 9' beard with 1' spurs. Nice average bird.
I'm at 23 birds in my life now. Hopefully next year will produce 24 and 25.
Years ago, I had an old timer tell me [he had a string of spurs by the way] that a fellow couldn't consider himself a turkey hunting expert until he harvested 25 birds. I'm close and by gum I'm getting the feeling like I may actually be getting these things figured out.
Hope yall are having as good a spring. Here are some of the other birds.
