Re: I want these....
Back in the late 60s early 70s I was a barrel filer and resleever of old side by side shotguns. My job was to strip down old shotguns and then fit new tubes into the original breech, refit the old ribs etc and file the new tubes/barrels ready for reblueing and proof testing. Matched pairs were tricky as the new barrels had to match exactly in weight and balance.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 2:27 pm Gamekeeper, you worked at Westley Richards????
Tell us more!
I then tested the finished guns on the range which also included firing both barrels together before handing the gun to the master gunsmith Charlie Eaves who gave it the final once over.
I also did quality control on the Westley Richards Game Load and Midland Express 12 bore cartridges.
Westley Richards at that time imported a lot of antique weapons from India, I also had to sort out crates of old cap n ball revolvers, flintlocks and Indian matchlocks plus hundreds and hundreds of swords and bayonets.
I did enjoy working there and in the end changed my job to dealing with sales and restoration of antique weapons, sadly the Indian government put a stop to the exporting of antiques, so I was made redundant.
I learned a heck of a lot there and have very fond memories of working with a great bunch of guys, some of the gags we used to pull on one another usually involved black powder but that's another story.
Back to the original post, I did occasionally get a chance to see rifles like those being engraved and zeroed in.

Re: I want this ....1911
I wish I had kept it, but the time The Dallas Morning News police report section mentioned a suspect using an automatic revolver was not something that I had the foresight to keep. I called them and asked which novelist had written the police report that day, but the person on the phone failed to see the humor in my question. I was curious as to why anyone would rob a convenience store of $200 with a pistol worth several thousand.
