New Job=new scoot
Had a great new job opportunity come my way that I just couldn't say no to. It is a bit of a drive from the house so had to get a new commuter bike to kill the miles on. So did a lot of research and found a new old stock 2016 Kawasaki Concourse 14 ABS for a really decent price. She is a big girl, but rips off the line like an abused simian Thought I would share since a bunch here like to live life on 2 wheels also. Have fun and keep the shiny side up.

Re: New Job=new scoot
I have never owned one of those but have come close. I always thought the Concours was a good value for a commuter bike.
My bike riding days are over for a while. Traded my last one in on a zero turn mower. Best trade I ever made.

Congratulations on the new job
That Kawasaki is a tad bigger than the one I had, mine was only 100cc

Good looking bike. Abused simian, I actually had to stop and think about that one. In polite company I just say a molested monkey. It rolls off the tongue easier.

.
The really nice thing about rice-burning commuter bikes is that the daily maintenance only involves counting the wheels, to ensure they're both still there.

I am too scared of the drivers in Dallas to get another bike. Texas lets you get a license for a car at 18 with nothing more than a signed statement from a parent that they taught you to drive.

Heck, all you have to do in California is prove you are illegal. Then they are afraid not to give you a license.

My brother had a 2008 Concourse he was selling and I was looking, so I test drove it for a month. Great commuter total comfort, great for cross country travel. The problem was that on the back roads I drive to work I couldn't put it in high gear because it ran at a low RPM I couldn't get any feedback through the bars to get an idea how fast I was going. That is why it didn't buy it. It was too smooth, I was always speeding with it. I mean 85 in 55 zones. Speeding tickets were in my future with that bike. Its a Geat Bike.
I tried the FZ9 with the same thoughts. I needed more of a toad. I bought a used BMW oilhead.

Re: New Job=new scoot
So, what's the new job?
Re: New Job=new scoot
Thanks all. Just got done with the break in and first oil change. To put it in perspective the RPM red line is 10.5K, at 4K in sixth she is running 85MPH and getting about 50 MPG
As to the new job, it's with a contract company working that works with the Navy down in San Diego. Much along the lines of what I did in the Corps.
BenT you'r right about smooth, darn thing has a power windshield so if the wind is too much on the highway just hit the button and raise it up.

Re: New Job=new scoot
Wish I could get a bike like that. The wife says "no!" all because I ain't growed up yet. I'd have ramps set up and would fly through the air....then spinning donuts on the street....take it out in the snow...etc....all stupid stuff.----6

Re: New Job=new scoot
Sounds like a job for a Royal Enfield. That long stroke engine gives plenty of feedback - and is happiest putting along around 50-55 mph. My Rumbler 500 has been a real hoot on our mountain roads. There's no place to stretch it out around here so don't miss the top end speed, the lower speed torque is lovely for pulling past vehicles on the upgrades. And like I mentioned, it's got a pleasing rumble/vibration to it that the smoother bikes just can't imitate. It's got personality.BenT wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2017 7:50 am My brother had a 2008 Concourse he was selling and I was looking, so I test drove it for a month. Gunny, congrats on the new job and new bike. I hope they both prove to be fulfilling!

Re: New Job=new scoot
I've always lusted after the Concours, but like other posters, I want to keep the points on my license.
You roll the throttle on that bike, you have a religious moment.
That's an absolutely sweet bike, but wasted on the so-called freeways of SoCal. At least you can lane-split.
Heard it made an unbeatable police bike till a couple of them caught on fire. (grin)
I''ll just stick with my little Suzuki 650 Vstrom with more of a chance to avoid interactions with the local constabulary.

Re: New Job=new scoot
Rolling on the throttle in any gear is an eye opener that's for sure. Went to pass a couple guys on Goldwings yesterday on the drive home rolling on from 70 Mph is was up to 105 before I knew it. Most of my commute is cruising along at 75, with a 114 mile one way drive she does make it easy.
