Re: Lyman borescope?
I bought one and find it useful for checking bore condition. It is not perfect. I find it difficult to keep in focus especially in larger bores as the probe rod tends to move up and down as I move it through the bore. I am considering getting some O-rings to slip on the probe rod to help keep it in one position. Also, the rod is too short to view the entire bore from one end. This is not a problem with bolt or single shot rifles that can receive the probe from either end. Finally, the lens is very small and even a speck of gun oil, dust, or lint can partially block or blur the view. The lens must be kept covered with the provided plastic protector when not in use. Despite its flaws I have learned to deal with it.
If you are not sure you want to spend that much money, try one of the inexpensive bore scopes found on Ebay:

They are fairly good for the price and can view the entire length of any barrel. I have both and between them I can pretty much find out what I want to know about my rifle bores.

Re: Lyman borescope?
I wanted a bore scope, but felt the prices were too high for occasional use. I also bought a $13 Ebay endoscope, and love it! I found that pushing a white patch down the bore ahead of the scope does wonders to improve the view. I push it with the scope a couple inches, and then back the scope up and look. Just repeat as I move down the bore until I've inspected it all.
I got this one that works with my laptop or smart phone:
