The price was right and included 100 rounds of Factory ammo

Welcome to the club..................the 348 is a slam dunk Elk and Moose rifle and have dropped 2 elk with mine as magnum like as you would ever want........these shoot cast bullets extremely well so it does not have to be a safe queen but you can shoot the hell out of it with no wear and tear...........bullets and brass are around and Hornday has bullets in their warehouse and one can find
old process barnes Grizzly stoppers are floating around on the internet....I bought a life time supply cheaper then 30 cal 150's as everyone or most everyone doesnt shoot these but hoards them n dark dank safes when they are actually the best lever rifles ever manufactured........How many leaver rifles feed upside down or on port side down??????? Shoot the rifle and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not arguing with you but my 1895 Winchester feeds upside down. I do love a good 71 though. With the lighter bullets they are pretty dang close to .30-06 velocities, great for deer. And of course they are uber reliable and powerful big big game rifles as you said.

That baby looks like new money! 100 rounds of factory ammo came with it...you can sell that and buy yourself a mould and shoot for cheap until the cows come home. I shoot at least 800-1000 a year out of mine for silhouette competition.----6

That there is a dandy..!! Now all you need is a Moose license and you'll be in levergun heaven.
As others have suggested...get a mold and go to casting some moderate loads to enjoy that rifle on a regular basis.

Bullet diameter is a true .348", but you knew that.
The 348 Win is actually much closer to a "35" caliber than the 35Rem, 356 W, 358W, 35 Whelen, etc. which all miss the "35" measurement by .006-008", while the 348W is of course, only .002" from the magic 35 moniker.

Only two/three production guns ever made for the cartridge, the 47,000+ Winchester 71, the re-engineered <12000 Browning 71s, and the Cimarron 1885 High-Wall, reputed to be between 400-750 built in different configurations.

Enjoy your 71, as they still out-class almost anything else your pals will bring to camp. I use a Limbsaver slip-on pad which allows me to spend many more rounds on paper. Practice makes accuracy!

I have one made in the 50's, it also has a peep sight, great gun, probably could never wear it out.
I have taken it moose hunting one time, didn't get to shoot one with it that year however. Planning
to take it again next year. Most guys I have been around have no idea what a 348 looks like and
it is always a conversation piece. It's just about the nicest lever gun ever built, in fact it was built
so well the cost was too high for most guys and that is one of the reasons it was not a big seller,
hard times when they first started manufacturing the Winchester 71. Of course they aren't cheap
these days, I paid 1,300.00 for mine, worth every penny. That one you have looks to be about as
nice as I have ever seen, congratulations.

Just lovely. Somewhere out there is a promotional film made in the early 1950s of several guys going hunting with their 71s -- and they are all wearing black and red checkered wool. If I find the link I will post it. Sure makes a feller feel nostalgic.
