With reputation those things have for unintended landings I'd much rather ride in our Chinooks.

Jeremy, didn't one in the first squadron of those things to go to Iraq crash right after they got there? I think it was last year.
You guys can have em. Our Chinooks are fast and reliable and I cant recall ever hearing of one crash other than the one that hotdog flared to hard coming into a carrier and ditched it over the side killing a bunch of guys.

It was pilot error. wasnt watching where he was going. The nice thing about the V22 is it will top 20,000 feet faster then any helo out there and will land almost anywere.
Trust me back when they first tested the CH46/47 they crashed a few before they got every thing worked out.

That definately has some major advantages. All joking aside, if it can get us there quicker and safer I'd be all for it, but doubt it'll see Army use anytime soon. Any idea what the cruising speed is? Apparently the Chinook is supposed to be the fastest helo still.

I think every mechanical thing in the services has had some problems. We used to call the Blackhawks "Crashhawks" and so forth. I think they've got the Ospreys a going concern now.

What I don't understand is the disproportional amount of time,energy, and money spent to get these things operation and deployed. And yet the AH-1 Zulus we discussed recently are uprades of older aiframes. I don't know which is a better use of taxpayer money. Hopefully the Marines (and the rest of our armed forces)are getting what they need. As a former fixed wing guy, IMHO all rotorcraft tend fall out of the sky with annoying regularity, but that's just the cost of doing business.
The tiltrotor has a linkage between the 2 sides so if one engine fails you still are able to turn both rotors. Otherwise I don't think it could fly with just one motor. Well maybe it could fly a little bit in airplane mode. My sister, now retired, worked at Bell when it was being developed so she knew a little bit about it.
