Alan Rickman, the life and times
I'm not exactly one to fawn over the deaths of actors, but Alan Rickman simply amazes me by the sheer number of movies I've seen but never actually realized he was in. Of course, he was the principle villain in the first Diehard and possibly most famous in his role as Snape in the Harry Potter movies. He even did comedy, like Galaxy Quest. When he passed, the news had a montage of movies and quotes and I repeatedly found myself saying "he was in that too?!"
And then I find this-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IfWXjRLCDc
Quigley Down Under. Now I've seen this movie several times and love it. But once again, I found myself absolutely dumbfound and had no [insert explicative here] clue that Rickman was in this too. He was just that great of an actor. I don't think I ever really saw him lead in anything, but the versatility of this man was amazing.
Just thought I'd share, relevant to our interests.

Nothing wrong with his acting. I also liked every movie I watched that he was in.

I always thought that in Quigley he was so good that you could easily hate him. He had that ability to convince you that he was despicable. I think I cheered the first time I saw Quigley shoot him.

The man with the impermanent, but utterly natural, sneer... even when only doing voiceovers (Marvin the Robot - H2G2)
Funny (not) how he and Bowie both dies of rapid and aggressive cancer at the same age and general date...

We've been watching his movies this week. Last night was Something the Lord Made. HBO movie. Very good. CBGB the night before. He was good in that too.
Kind regards,

Re: Alan Rickman, the life and times
Never particularly a favorite actor, but he was good in all the roles I ever saw him in.
Re: Alan Rickman, the life and times
He actually was one of my favorite actors.
I found him utterly believable in every part that I saw him play.
I appreciate the work he did, and regret that he will not perform again.
Farewell Mr. Rickman, and... Thanks... I enjoyed your work.
