The hike to "Coyote Ridge"(pics)
Took the "combo" on another hike to another hunting area this morning.
We parked the car and trek-ed back too a spot about 3/4 of a mile square of steep hills covered in oak trees.
Michael made sure to educate me on the best way to navigate the terrain.
A short while later we were at the top of Coyote Ridge, a name I gave it 2 years ago. All along the south side are several old dens.
I told Mike that we would stop and eat a snack and watch for deer.
He was the first to spot 3 headed our way and made a loud enough shout to let me know.
I had taken this pic just before.
I snapped a quick pic as they were running off
I hunt this spot in the second week of rifle season. Way to busy the first week, to close to the trail.
I like to go farther in.
View from my ground blind. Dose not get much use when there is snow on the ground though. I spend that time tracking.
Last but not least Mike and his trees. The beagle was with us but to caught up in chasing the tree rats.

Thats sounds like a good time.Isn't life great with little ones in it!?
Mine just turned three and I'm taking him horse back riding for the first times this weekend. Better late than never.

Steve,Excellent Terry! Me and my boy just came out of the woods hoping to find some mushrooms. We came out empty handed.
We struck out as well. I think its to early up here.

I hear ya!Ysabel Kid wrote:Those pictures almost make me miss Michigan.
Almost!
Great post though!
This last winter just about did it for me.
But then again the trout season is just around the corner and I live just a mile from two of the top listed rivers in the country for Rainbows and Browns.
I can't imagine life without a shore lunch, of corn bread, pickled cauliflower, and trout fried in oil and a speical seasoning rub.
Or hunting a mature Michigan Whitetail buck on public land argubably the most difficult deer to hunt anywhere.
If we could just fix the econmy and get a little more global warming I'd be happy.

Nope just the food.Modoc ED wrote:Good pictures and story to go with them. What all did Michael have in his back-pack? You didn't make him carry everything for the day did you?
A bottle of Koolaid. bottle water for the dog + dish, 2 garnola bars and peanut butter crackers.
Dad hauls the emergency stuff, just in case.
