Anti-gun rhetoric from a police chief. (sigh)
Probably this should be in politics, but I'm too lazy to click over there...
Dayton OH, Sheriff's deputies respond to vehicle crash, shoot driver. Not judging the deputies till we get an investigation but looks like the Montgomery county sheriff sure has an opinion on it.
UPDATE @ 10:53 p.m. July 23: Montgomery County sheriff’s Deputies Gust Teague and Josh Haas shot and killed Dontae L. Martin of Dayton after he pointed an expensive armor piercing pistol at them that was loaded with “cop-killer” ammunition, Sheriff Phil Plummer said.

Ok...
"It's known as a "cop-killer" on the streets"
But they've never recovered one "on the streets".
So "on the streets" it more than likely something they never, if ever, encounter.
Doesn't something actually have to be "on the streets" before it gets "known as..." on the streets?

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Plummer is seeking answers about the $1,400 pistol. He and Maj. Daryl Wilson said its one the sheriff’s office has never recovered before during their respective tenures.
Maybe he should actually have those answers before makes statements.Sheriff Plummer wrote:...This particular pistol is not your standard pistol. It shoots a rifle-type ammunition,” Plummer said. The ammo has blue tips. The pistol was loaded with 21 rounds of this rifle-style ammunition, he said. “This ammo’s designed to penetrate officers’ vests. It’s known as a cop-killer on the streets.
Lots of questions need answers.the FN website wrote:This sporting round incorporates a conventional jacketed lead core projectile with polymer tip. Intended for general target, competition and hunting use. Exclusively distributed by Federal Cartridge Company in the U.S.

Just to let y'all know, to have an Ohio Sheriff making these inflammatory comments is a Big Deal.
Ohio is odd, at least law enforcement-wise.
There is no state police organization. There is the mighty Ohio highway patrol (Royal Order of the Flying Donut, check the emblem on their doors), jurisdiction is state highways and state property. Most of those guys 'n gals do speeding citations and hope for a crash so they can do a different type of paperwork.
For each county, the Sheriff is The Top Dog. Sheriff has total jurisdiction in their county, down to even taking over investigations and cases from the local city, village or township police departments. And mutual aid, if requested gives them authority in other counties.
Again, no state police.
I heard of another case this guy got involved in. White guy got whacked by couple black guys, took all his guns (more than a couple) and this sheriff personally showed up at the crime scene to make his points.
I've met three kinds of sheriff's.
First one is law enforcement sheriff, shows up every day in uniform, duty belt and all. Could hop in patrol car two minutes after walking in office.
Second is business sheriff, suit and tie. Makes sure things are running correctly, has his uniformed command staff taking care of business.
Third is the political sheriff. Well, it is an elected office. This person may be in uniform, or not, is always glad handing, going to the right meetings, seeing the right people.

Chuck Hawks website has a great article written specifically to address this subject. I suggest you go check it out. Pretty surprised after reading it.

Two issues:
The police chief is an idiot.
Did the deceased point a handgun at cops? That's asking to get shot.

Yes, I did. I've long been fascinated with the FiveSeveN vs. 22Mag (FN vs PM30) argument. The article is a good one.UncleBuck wrote:Nobody ever said that facts do matter to people of these ilk.Since when do facts matter to Demcraps, RINOs and other Statist Blowhards?

Not that any of it matters to the "Bow to ME - Serf" crowd, but, whatever...

Hawks article really makes me think about that under-utilized and poorly thought of. 22 mag as a carry gun.

Make a 22 Mag spec round in centerfire format and then go shoot through some schools --- yeah right. The 22 Hornet doesnt get lambasted as a "cop killer" either but oh well
