Cool story & the gun don't look all that bad considering
I bet I know a dozen guys that have found relics over the years, two of them were hit with a chain saw & then split out, one was the remains of a 1885 in a field that's been plowed for way over
a 100 years, a strange story for sure if them old guns could talk!!

Neat story..........the condition of the 73 kind of reminds me of some of the guns in gunshops when I was passing through Texas one time.------ -----6

Vance,
(Here we go with one of those threads that make a 90 degree...but Griff is a good ole boy....he won't mind)
I've never been to Texas but from what I've seen in pictures, it seems awfully dry to me. Is it really that humid?----6

Eastern half is very humid, Unless you're here in late July or August. Then the whole state is dry, but still nothing like the northern great plains. Until 70 years or so ago, nobody insulated their houses. So guns stored in closets got a lot of abuse, especially in winter and spring.
Back to the OP...does anyone know of any more links to stories about this? Any post-examination update? Ammo, loaded, caliber, etc.
