Vintage: Box Of Rem. 30-30 Express…
I never knew there was a factory 165-grain loading.
Any idea as to the year this box was made
Just got to love the artistry on these old boxes.

Eye-Agree! The art work is wonderful. Love the old Winchester posters as well.

Supposedly, box is all wrapped in preservative plastic.
Re: Vintage: Box Of Rem. 30-30 Express…
casastahle,
That was the first box after the two piece box so it likely falls in the late 1920's, early 1930's time period.

What's the story on the 165 grain bullet?
Why did they bump it up to the ever popular 170?
Re: Vintage: Box Of Rem. 30-30 Express…
IIRC, the 165 was the original bullet weight as it was considered the "best" but later tastes, a need to compete with other brands such as the .303 Savage and so forth they moved to the 150s and 170s as "standards" although other weights in specialty loads were sold.

Re: Vintage: Box Of Rem. 30-30 Express…
Actually, the 160 gr. bullet was the first loading. Then came the 170. Rem-Umc introduced the 165 gr Mushroom in the mid 1920's. It was a hollow point bullet with a full jacket (no lead exposed) also known as the "Protected Hollow Point" . The full jacket kept the bullet nose from being "beat up" in the magazine like the standard 170 gr flat nose which had lead exposed at the tip.
Remington offers a similar round today although in a 170 gr version as does Winchester.

with the ammo shortage, are you going to shoot it up?

Any idea how old this one is? Price marked on box is 1.46.
All rounds in the box appear original.

Ammunition packaging started to lose class in the 60's. Beyond hope now...

I've got a nice old box of Peters 160gr "Metal Cased Bullet" - roundnose FMJ solids. Exactly the same type Peters box that w30wcf posted with the 165gr HP.
