this is not a critical rant about the new guns as I have never touched one. So here is my question If I were to find one with a lot of the problems that I have read about, haw many could I just fix my self? I have 4 rossi's , including a Rio Grande, so I kinda know my around the innards of these things.
Basic question, If I find the one that I want, a Marling cowboy with the long barrel, with decent rifling, should I just treat it as a rossi and go through it and forget about remlin customer service?

Re: new Marlin
Look for one of the Marlin's made before Remington defiled them. "JM" marked on the barrel instead of "REM". Lots of good used ones still out there as well as NIB models.
I found a NIB Marlin 39A (JM marked) in a small gun shop the 3rd of this month. It was just sitting there waiting for me to find it.

Re: new Marlin
Did Remington make any of the 1895 Cowboys? They were discontinued a while back.

You cannot fix some things, like bad rifling (screenshot from a video that is on YouTube, Published on Apr 21, 2012):

Re: new Marlin
The only Cowboy in the current catalog is the 1894 in 45 Colt.
44-40 Winchester. Whacking varmits and putting meat on the table since 1873.
