where did the leverguns go?

Post by big bear »

I finally figured out what has changed. In the old days this forum was all about leverguns and shooting. Now it seems more about politics, just check the volume of words about leverguns and the volume about politics/social-religious views and economics. Oh well.....

It is an election year. Same thing happened in '04, just not as bad 'cause the Republicans were pretty much a shoe in. Most of the politics postings are about issues that have a direct effect on levergunning. Skip over the ones marked politics.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Becuse with the way things are right now as politics goes, so go our leverguns.

It's that simple.

OI hit the nail squarely on the head. I'd rather look at pictures of marlinman93s refurbished Marlins too, but until the SCOTUS rules, and then this election is over, you just gotta hang in there and be patient.

Post your own levergun threads, there's room for them. I'm gonna do that as soon as the stinking weather clears up here in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Illinois.

It hasn't changed a bit. The old board there was maybe 2 threads on the first page that weren't stickies about one thing or another, mostly not having much to do with leverguns. Then the next 3 pages were full of ot stuff, jokes, new releases, stuff for sale, or auction alerts, etc. The only thing thats changed is the format.
Just got to wade past the OT stuff and find what you're looking for.
:?: Can't find something you like, then start one and see what happens.

Why no leverguns...? For most of us the answer may be in the nearest mirror.

Too many gun hobbyists have sat on the sidelines for fear of being too 'political' so now we're all on the verge of having not only a hobby declared illegal, but a nation, and a way of life.

If it is just a hobby to you, fine - why bother with all the political stuff; if it gets too difficult to engage, you can always just pick another hobby.

On the other hand, if it is a mindset, a philosophy, a way of life, or a national identity at stake, then preserving it may unfortunately have to take priority over practicing it. That's too bad, I know, but I feel that if there are '80 million gun owners' in this nation, then why do only 40 million people vote, and why does ANY legislative body get away with anti-gun legislation?

Some 79,000,000 gun owners aren't doing their job, that's why!   If they'd get off their butts and help put the concept of 'reasonable gun control' to rest, we could ALL spend more time enjoying our hobby and our lives, rather than constantly having to worry about what's going to be banned next. Instead, those 79,000,000 blissfully play with their gun-toys, and when money is needed for gunowners, they have none because it was all spent on their hobby, and when time is needed to talk to legislators, they're out in the deerstand. Sometimes those 79,000,000 doubtless wonder why the other 1,000,000 of us pollute the 'fun' with politics.

It's all good :) If you don't like the Political threads than don't read them!
If all you like are lever topics than that's OK too....to each his own. It's all about personal choice...no one is holding your feet to the fire.

Want some cheese with your whine? This is a great site with some great information...not only about lever rifles, but also about the right to own and enjoy lever rifles for generations to come.

++++1 DITTOS!! DITTOS!!

The frustrating part for me is I feel like I am not doing enough, or much of the time don't know what else I can do. I write my congressmen often. I vote. I join gun friendly organizations. I participate in local shoots, dinners, etc. I always feel this not near enough. What else specificly can we do. I need suggestions. Oh, I almost forgot I pray to allmighty God too.

In the old days... let's see, I was one of the first twenty for sure, perhaps one of the first 10 or less, to sign up on the "old forum". From the beginning it was geared around the following statement:
"Welcome to the Leverguns.Com Forum. This is a high-class place so act respectable. We discuss most anything here ... politely."
When we moved over here the only thing that changed was the format. Same folks, same topics, same moderators. Over the years I've noted that the various forums I've been involved in tend to be a bit cyclical. In a presidential election year you're going to see a LOT of political stuff, that's the nature of the beast. :-)

Believe me, I wish I could post more first hand levergun oriented stuff. BUT because of the political nature of my current residence, that ain't gonna happen very often. I'm thankful for the folks who are willing to fight so that when I DO get back to my native land I can also play with leverguns.

In the meantime, you can do like me - skip over those posts that don't interest you. And if you click on the little numbers at the bottom right of the screen (you'll have to scroll to the bottom) you can visit other pages looking for topics that interest you as well. :-) Pretty nifty, really... :D

If we only discussed leverguns, the site would be 1/20th of it's size, and most wouldn't stick around. It is the commraderie, and the various topics - plus the ease of skipping those not of interest, that keeps us all here. We had some great posts the last month about lever range sessions and fighting the winter blues with levergun pics. The posts are still here, but as noted, we are in one of the most important election cycles of our lives - one that will impact our levers and all other guns - so it will be constant discussion between now and November. Hopefully we will all be celebrating then that we dodged another bullet - pun intended. I doubt anyone will be happy per se, but I'm just hoping we are all not heading out to bury our guns 11/05/2008... :(
