oh yea 10gr of unique behind that 240 cast bullet is the midas touch at only 10 gr it is very economical and recoil is semi mild but it will anchor just about any thing you shoot at im a little biased

Load

Post by Les Staley »

Rockchuck: I am working with a model 1894 Marlin 44 Mag, working up some loads.. I have found best accuracy with max loads of H110 behind a Jacketed 240.. check your book and start out a grain or two under max, work your way up.. Also a 20 gr load of 2400 behind a 180 gr jacketed .430 groups very well.. the slow 1`-38 twist is not very forgiving.. have a Shilen 1-20 .429 on the way.. will keep you'all posted about progress.. The lead SWC was very accurate in my gun but it didn't feed well. Due to velocities appropriate to the bullet, I'd go with 9-10 gr. of Unique. Gives .44-40 BP velocities.
Sincerely,

Here's what shoots good out of my 1894:

Montana Bullet Works

230 gr SWC sized to .431

23.0 gr H110 over WLP in R-P case. With a 16x scope will shoot MOA @ 100 yards out of my rifle.

This is the most accurate load/rifle combination I have for a Levergun

If I remember correclty it will do 1750 fps or better.
