Rooster Cogburn

Post by Machado »

Gentlemen:
Just finished seeing an old copy of"Rooster Cogburn", starring John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn.
At the climax of the movie, Cogburn shoots and blasts crates of nitro and blows the bad guys. Action over, camera turns on the young indian Wolf, and Wayne stands turned sideways holding his rifle.
My question is, what rifle was that? The loading gate is very near the forward end of the receiver, and not where it usually is on M-92s and M-94s.
In my copy, this happens at time 1:37:19.
Thank you.
Best,
Antonio

Antonio,

That rifle is a Daisy 94 BB gun. Somehow it just looks out of place to me.

No, I am not kidding. For that scene the prop guys handed him a Daisy 94 BB gun. I don't know the exact model name for it, but that's what it was.

That Daisy Spittin Image BB gun sticks out like a sore thumb on the tv. On the big screen it was like a pimple on the prom queens nose. :o

OK, they did it; but why, when they had the real thing present?

It could just be the prop guys having a bit of fun. Odd things show up in lots of movies, but few folks are really paying enough attention to see them. If you'll recall Hitchcock used to do quick cameos in all of his movies. Lots of folks never even saw him.
