What model Winchester is this?

Post by dkmlever »

My buddy who has asked me for my help, wants to sell this rifle but I have no idea what it is or the value.
Any advice is appricated. One barrel is modern and is chambered for 357 mag and has a hi-viz fron site, the original barrel is marked 32 WCF. Sorry for the poor pictures, let me know what you know about this or its current value with both barrels.

1885 lowall, appears to have been refinished when they rebarreled it to 357. Would probably put it out for around 1000$.

I am no expert on those, as you might have noticed ... wall looked so high ...

:D

Calibers would have lead to Low Wall, of course ...

.

I believe it to be a refinished gennie 1885 Low Wall, rebarreled in .357 while retaining the original (also refinished) .32-20 bbl) and not a modern Miroku-made (Japan) clone.

I think i saw Burt Lancaster shooting an 1885 in "Valdez is Coming," or at least it looked alot like it.

Yea, 1885 Lo-Wall made in 1909. I got one only a couple of thousand numbers higher.

Price? Well, I tell it like it is and the gun has been buffed, reblued and barrels changed. Looks tastefully done as I see it has the original wood with excellent wood to metal fit and no major pits or dings in the metal. I would price it as a semi-fancy shooter at about 6-7. If the barrel of the 32-20 has a smooth bore with sharp rifling, that's worth another 2 to 3 so I guess that adds up to what Don says, "about a g".

Under the barrel, just ahead of the forend, (on the original 32-20 barrel) there will be a single digit number stamped. Looks like a #1 to me, which was standard for Lo-Walls. Could be a #2 which would add a little $$.---------------Sixgun
