I absolutely want to make this part of my boat gear plans.

The other thing I saw somewhere is an led light that uses a weight like the oldtime clocks to drive the crank mechanism. 20 min of 'free' light per reset of the weight. that could be worked on.

someone is doing this to replace kerosene lighting in poverty stricken regions. something we could probably build into a cabin or boat structure. plus I'm thinking about adding a small paddle wheel to the boat to drive a small generator slash battery charger. 'cause solar doesn't work in northern winters.

My place in N.M. has solar panels on the roof ( liquid )
a photo voltaic cell to drive the pump, extra water heater ( more for storage ) hot liquid enters house, goes to two radiators, free heat during the day.
You don't come home to a cold house.
Build a fire, cook supper, settle in for the night.
A lot of times, the lab and I sleep in front of the fire.
