OT-American Soldier

Post by JohnnyReb »

With all the bashing of our soldiers, and even our values, in the media, here and around the world, I want to reference a concept first promoted by one of the giants of the 20th Century.

Winston Churchill wrote the multi volume work of "The History of Western Civilization" Within those volumes he included remarks about an advancement of Western culture and thought via the United States:

(paraphased)- In the history of the world there has never been a fighting man like the American Soldier. From the first organized tribal conflicts continuing through the global conflict of WWII, each soldier has fought for land, survival, king, queen or country, but the American soldier fights for the rights and freedom of another without expectation of direct benefit. The fact that a sovereign nation would shed it's most precious of commodities under these precepts speaks for the advancement and ideals held dear by our civilization. It is a broad leap forward.

No one could give a compliment quite like Winston Churchill, he was the best.

He knew how to make a man swell with pride.

Our world could really use a man like him now. Nobody seems to be able to
get across to everyone just how bad things are right now.

But we didn't just fight out of friendship, I think we saw what was happening
to our friends and it made our blood run cold. We knew it wouldn't stop on
that side of the Atlantic but would come to our shores also.

Don't forget that a good majority of "sheep" that lived in America at the time
were against getting involved.

Probably more from libertarian type views than modern day liberal views.

If England didn't stand as long as she did on her own thanks to the boundless
courage and determination of her men it would have hurt allot worse.

GOD BLESS THE AMERICAN FIGHTING MAN, MAY HE ALWAYS BE THERE
TO PROTECT OUR LIBERTIES.

The American fighting men and women are the pinnacle of our civilization. Their honor and efforts carry forth our vision of liberty - not only for our country, and generations yet to be here, but for millions and billions of people around the world who yearn to be free.

I personally, and we collectively, owe each and every one a debt we can never fully repay - but must try at all times.

THANK YOU!

Too bad we can't have Churchill and Teddy, or even Franklin back. Today's "leaders" are a mere ghost of what once was. The last leader we had with real, don't give a darn, balls was Reagan. I fear that type of leader is gone forever. And mores the pity.

I believe the biggest problem with todays politicians is that they are too worried
about people think of them.

They keep spouting words that aren't from their own heart, people can pick up
on this pretty quickly. A democrat will say he believes a democrat and the
same with republicans. But in our hearts we can tell even if we won't admit it.

Politicians (some) used to talk from their heart, got elected, and either stayed
in office cuz the people liked what they did, or they got booted but tried there
best.

Nowadays I think "the people" if they tried could cause a politician to bore a hole
in the ground just by changing their minds every two minutes. The constant
spinning back and forth of said politician would cause him to dig to China.

He will be there when you need him.

Although he usually shows up just before everything is lost.

Looking into the past, the only time we have had great leadership is when we are
going through the worst of times. Pretty Ironic eh.

I think the moment defines the man.

When I was in High School, I researched and wrote a paper on the Arthurian legend. After he descended into the lake, it was said that he and his knights would return at "England's Darkest Hour".

It is said that Churchill was Arthur returned and his knights were the English pilots during the battle of Britain.

Very cool concept. :)

Really - when was the last time you heard a CANDID comment from any politician (other than if they didn't know the mike was on). I think we'd all respect them more if they were more candid, and we could at least believe that they were speaking what they honestly believed.
