Whats on your bucket list?

When I go to the gun stores I look at all the guns even if I can afford them or not. I would like to own them all, but know I never will. The real question is what guns do you want to buy and always own before you die.

I had my list down to:

Whatever else I pick up along the way is collateral damage to my wallet.

Other than to see my children happy and independent, an extended Brown Bear/Moose/Caribou hunt in Alaska. The dream is to do it with my sons and best friends, flying in to a remote area with one guide...maybe two at the most. Do not care if it took months.

Pertaining only to guns, I am thinking about a Savage bolt gun in 260 Remington. I bought loadbooks for 3 potential calibers, .243, 260 Rem, and 25-06. The 260 Rem had several loads using familiar powders, enough velocity, and accuracy potential so I hear. Seemed like the best balance of case size, bullet weight, powder use, etc. I tell you one thing, there are plenty of .264 bullets on the shelf at the reloading store right now, whereas everything else is long gone.

I may also go ahead with the project to rebore a 30-30 to 30-357 and have a wide array of pistol bullets to shoot. First I want to bell a bunch of cases to make sure it's feasible. I've done a couple but have ruined a high percentage.

Still want to kill a Buffalo, American Bison with my 1886 in 45-90 loaded with ffg. The only gun I would like to have is a Colt, 1862 Police. One of the 2nd gens would suffice. I'll have to keep my eye peeled this week end.

Would really like another pack trip with a good mule to ride. Did that back in '65 on the North Rim and it's one of my fondest memories.

There aren't any guns that really are left on the bucket list for me. I have what I have always wanted and don't have enough time to shoot them now. If there were enough time to shoot more, a Shiloh Sharps in .45-70 or .45-90 would be a lot of fun, or maybe a Rugher #1 in one of those calibers. Trying to get good enough to regularly hit a 1000 yard gong with it and my aging eyes would be fun.

Guns, I'd like to get a 1894 Winchester carbine with a half mag shotgun butt in 38/55 or 32 Win Spl. I have one in a 32 Win Spl right now but I want one in really good condition. Those are hard to find and cost more $$ than I usually have in my pocket.

Currently I am waiting for a Wild West gun co-pilot in .457, scoped, 18 inch barrel, Kevlar stocks. And then a companion marlin TDS. I have owned both before. I sold them when I changed jobs and needed funds. I also have a Shiloh military rifle in production. Other than that, I'm always looking for a neat firearm to tryout. I am not pleased with my savage bolt gun in 22 that I have silenced. It does not eject reliably. Perhaps a ruger lever in 22 fully silenced would be on the list too

Having just beat cancer, my Bucket List has more than "I wannas".

When I was being treated (radiation) I had to go 110 miles north daily. I went past Humbug Mtn. on the way up and back, each time I passed it I thought "One day I'm gonna climb that mountain". So, that's number one or two on my list.

I live within 2 miles of some great salmon fishing and when recovering and pretty weak, I saw a guy catch a good sized salmon, so landing a 30-40 lb. salmon is number 2.

Next on the list is learning to kayak, and fishing from a kayak. During recovery from one of my surgeries I read an article about a guy that kayaked the length of the Chetco River and decided 66 ain't too old to learn kayaking! Still looking into lessons, equipment, etc.

And I promised myself I'd enjoy my guns more; I wanna get an M1, a real Colt SAA, and mebbe a real '86 Winchester.

Next isn't really a bucket list item, but I wanna remain thankful, to my God who didn't abandon me and kept me full of hope and peace, and my wife for sticking by me (and making special meals when I couldn't swallow). I'm going to the gym, trying to get fit enough to climb Humbug Mt. (isn't really a mountain, just an 1800 ft. rock on the Oregon Coast). I've been going fishing in the river to learn how to catch that giant salmon and studying, looking, asking about kayaks...

Next, I so appreciate your items on the bucket list. I think we all have other items then I want this or that but we responded to the OPs original intent of bucket list lever guns or guns in total.

I wrote a bucket list when I was 16. Had 100 things on it to do. I keep moving through the list, though not as fast as I keep getting older. I wish you well on your list. Shoes us pictures of u at the top of the mountain and then later holding onto that monster salmon!

I think mikld puts things in perspective well. My status is more like piller's in that I have whatever I have wanted (been spending 40 years saving, wheeling, and dealing to get them, putting other material needs aside). Now just need to spend time enjoying them with the family, and actually am now 'thinning the herd' as I see which ones I just 'had to have' are really not as much fun or not as accurate as I'd hoped.

some simple and stupid sounding rules that keep you alive:

pay attention (I mean to every detail of your interface with the waters)

stay in the boat

keep water out of the boat

don't let current sweep you under anything

don't go in bigger water than you can handle

when in doubt, don't go

the boat generally doesn't move in the direction it is pointed, learn about this

the water moves in more directions than we think, learn about this

expand your experience by observing these rules


I know this sounds silly and like, you know, common sense. But I can almost guarantee that anyone that's died in the water has broken one or more of these rules. Other than some technique stuff that you can learn by doing, it's all about kinetic learning. just like you can learn to fly an airplane by reading a book, I recommend kitchen chair flying, but you become a pilot by flying, becoming a seaman is exactly the same. going out without the book is risky, but it's the being out there that makes you become a mariner. IOW, just DO IT.

I mean this to be encouraging and hope you start getting into it this week, there's no point in waiting. For fishing a rotomolded sit-on-top will get you started and probably get you back most of the time.

A new 5 gallon one tops my "bucket list". My old one was used to clean trowels used to apply drywall mud (without my knowledge) and I just can't get it all out to use for car washing, etc.

A smaller bucket for floor mopping and the like would be nice but not a need to have IMO.

You know, I just don't know when it comes to guns, I have owned most anything I ever wanted, but I guess there is always another, I just won't know it until I see it. However, on the short list, maybe another Colt Peacemaker in 45 cal, with a 4.75 barrel length and real Ivory grips. And I would like to have a storekeeper model too.

And I am always on the lookout for the prefect side by side shotgun or two or three.

On things to do, I seen some video of a helicopter hog hunt in Texas, to me that's a bucket list hunt. Also, I would like to do some Black bear hunting over bait in Penn. or somewhere, and a Brown bear hunt in Alaska.

And there's still some fine old Winchester Leveractions I would love to own, I guess never really get enough of those, but how many can I actually shoot?

I used to work for a timber company out of Coos Bay and spent a fair amount of time in helicopters flying up and down the coast looking at timber. Whenever I think of Humbug Mt, I recall a day when we were flying to Brookings. When we got to Humbug Mt., we hit a headwind that stopped us cold at full throttle. We were standing still on the ocean side of that rock and had to turn and fly inland around the north side of the rock to get past that wind.

When you climb it, make sure your hat is secure!

As far as my gun bucket list, I would like to have a Model 63 Winchester, a Winchester model 94 rifle with an octagon barrel, a S&W 66 or 686 pistol.

Thanks Grizz. My "paddling place" is gonna be the Pacific Ocean mebbe 75% of the time. I grew up in So. CA, spent all summers at the beach, surfed, learned to sail, and spent as many weekends as I could on my sailboat (this kept me from shootin', but I got a stainless steel S&W 629 to hold me over). I love the ocean and learned to "read" the wind and water (one of my favorite things to do was sail out from land mebbe 2 or 3 hours and drop the sails and just sit). I learned that no matter how big my boat seemed in port, it got real small out of sight of land. And never loose respect for what Ms. Pacific could do....

I bounce back and forth and am always looking for that next great thing but as of today, may change tomorrow, I would rather spend the money on shooting supplies for what I already have than another gun. Still I have a short bucket list for someday:

#1) a .32acp pocket gun. Easy enough, probably happen this year.
#2) a trapper length .32H&R lever gun. Considering the only production .32H&R levergun I know of is the 24" Marlin (currently used @ $800-1000) I'm definitely looking at other options. Maybe a H&R single shot project, may have to settle for a .357 or another .30-30. Won't happen anytime soon.
#3) another .32H&R Single Six but with adjustable sights, maybe a SP101 instead. Once again, won't happen anytime soon.

I've never put together a bucket list for one reason or another, but reading all these posts really got me to thinking. I'll start with the gun bucket list, and it seems long, but most are unattainable, so it's really pretty short.

1) My own Keith #5 Colt SAA in 44 special.
2) Winchester 1886 in 33 WCF, ideally a takedown, in about 90% condition so I can shoot it and like to look at it.
3) One of the very few Colt Pythons that made it out of the factory in .256 Win Mag.

Real life bucket list.

1) See my kids grow up and be successful in whatever that may be.
2) Stay married because divorces sound really expensive and I've got a good one.
3) Retire in good health (I want to start my second career as a mountain guide at 55, and hunt grizzly, caribou and moose as my retirement gift to myself).

Man, this caused a lot of deep thought. I need to take a nap.
