Anybody have experience Repacking Hydraulic Cylinders?
I have a scissor lift that is about 24x48 with a 48" lift that I will be placing in a floor. It has been unused for many years, shows no leaks and works perfectly. My ignorance of hydraulics led me to ask a local guy who says I should repack it and he'll be happy to do it for $300. That seems high to me.
Should I repack it?
Should I do it myself?
Is $300 a fair price?

Kind regards,

I work with hydraulics. There are many styles of seals and cylinders. I would get a parts breakdown to see what exactly is involved. Some are very simple, some take 3 people a week and still need luck. Depends mainly on how the cylinder disassembles.

If the thing is lifting properly and not leaking, there's nothing to fix.

I agree, if it aint broke don`t fix it!!
Re: Anybody have experience Repacking Hydraulic Cylinders?
I have done a few of them and they aint to bad to do as long as you have a good vice or chain vice to get the packing nut loose. Some of the hard nylon type seals need to be placed in boiling water to soften them. If it aint leaking leave it be. Seal kits are about 30 bucks.

I have bought a lot of hydraulics from this place.

It's possible you can replace your cylinder for less that the quote.
But I agree with everyone else, if it works perfectly, let it go. There's nothing to fix.

I sell hydraulics and pneumatics. Get the make model and description of the cylinder, normally found on a name plate and I will let you know the price of a full repair kir.
