Found a real nice marlin 1895 in 45-70 today, have been looking for an older one for some time now this one was made in 1986.
Barrel inside is like a mirror, bluing is perfect, screw heads look like the have never been touched, loading gate has no marks at all, internal workings have barely any wear marks at all no marks in the wood, the white plastic parts in the recoil pad and pistol grip cap,and the Marlin bullseye have yellowed but I think I'm just going to let them be.
I see by the picture I need to wipe my fondling marks off the forearm wood
Also it has a sweet older Redfield 2-7 scope on it with Weaver base and rings, scope is crystal clear w/fine duplex cross hairs.

Nice find, absolutely. You're right about that old Redfield scope, too. Those old Redfields are very much in demand by folks who want a period correct scope. That's a prize in, itself.

Just noticed the front scope cap says Golden Star and has 5 stars on it, same as the scope has on it on the side where it says Redfield....oh man! now I have to find the matching rear scope cover... It never ends!

Nice find. Cant go wrong with a 45/70. N-C-G I have 2 older Redfields that I wouldn't mind selling. Is there a place to list them?

Great rifle ! Mine is very accurate.
I love those early Redfields. I still have a couple of the Redfield Royal variables.
The Royal had extra long eye relief as commonly needed when installed on a Ruger #1.
Great optics and about as bullet proof as any scope made.
Nice prize for sure. I've run into those 1895's with half a box through them being sold cheap. My son now has one of them that I bought from Malamutes neighbor that came by the jobsite. Had a pachmeyer buttpad and had only shot haf box factory Rems through it but said it kicked to hard . Me an Bill got a good laugh about that. Think I paid him $400 cash on the spot without even seeing it.

The other thought is, an older gentleman bought the rifle of his dreams, took it on 1 or 2 hunts, got sick and never went out again.
I have heard a few stories like that. One involved a gent who never even got to cash his 1st retirement check.
